Allan McGregor: Rangers' No.1 was calm on the ball with limited passing options at points and made an excellent stop at his near post after the visitors hustled their way towards his goal. That aside had to gather the odd shot but was generally well protected. A world-class late double save defied belief. 8

James Tavernier: Played the ball into Hagi that led to the first goal. Attacked space when it was available and benefited from a greater range of options when he was on the ball. Also defended his side of the pitch relatively well to switched balls. Like Barisic, wasn't as vulnerable to overloads thanks to the change in system. 7

Connor Goldson: Solid alongside Bassey, was slightly predictable playing out from the back but that perhaps is an area Van Bronckhorst will aim to work on in coming weeks. His well-coveted diagonal was an even more valuable weapon with the increased height Kent played with. Made one mistake that was nearly punished by a far-post header but that aside a solid display. 7

Calvin Bassey: Played superbly in the first 45, dropping out of the defence to protect his midfield from being overloaded. Was strong in a number of one-on-one duels and looked solid positionally. Far more assured than in the reverse tie. For a player that hasn’t yet convinced as a centre-back, in a huge game he looked every bit of one. 8

Borna Barisic: Had to play slightly more reserved with Kent often providing the width on the left but still recognised the correct time to provide an overlap. A lot less predictable in his movement. Defensively benefitted from more cover in front of him and being exposed less from switches of play. 7

Steven Davis: Had to cover a lot of ground alongside Glen Kamara and on occasion overplayed in the middle. Was combative and benefited from playing as one of two 6s as opposed to the singular defensive midfielder. Grew with the game and really protected the space in front of the defence well. 7

Glen Kamara: At one point in the first-half he threatened a run beyond the forward line, an indication of the different role he may fulfil under this new tenure. Provided good cover when his team had possession in and around the opposition box. Covered into the defensive line well if Tavernier pressed. 7

Joe Aribo: Started centrally and was disciplined in his work without the ball, protecting the two midfielders behind him. Hit the bar and put another good chance narrowly over the woodwork. Still lacked a final cutting ball on the couple of occasions he entered the penalty box. Attacked the space well when Kent beat his man and that should have spelled game over after the hour, but the ball was clipped over the bar. 7

Ianis Hagi: Superb work that led to the first goal. On another occasion he came short before spinning in behind to set up Joe Aribo for what should have been the second goal. He did cause a good few turnovers and also was beaten too easily by opposing defenders as they came out from the back. Replaced by Patterson. 7

Ryan Kent: His first 15 minutes was a refreshing watch for all who know the quality he possesses. Constantly encouraged to pull wide and attack with momentum. Did just that and beat two men to set up Aribo before the Nigerian clipped the bar. Playing in space, often aided by a late overlap – saw him look much better than the weekend. Looked equally electrifying at the start of the second half and should have added a third soon after half time. 8

Alfredo Morelos: One of the main pleas supporters had for their incoming boss was ‘get back the buffalo’. He was far more roubust throughout which brought its rewards. His goal was well finished but it was the work alongside that that earned equal adulation. Staying high, fighting and winning balls played into him and looking altogether more Morelosh-ish. 8

Substitutes

Nathan Patterson: Introduced to play in front of James Tavernier. Made a strong interception as an opposition attack built early on from his arrival. 6

Fashion Sakala: Came on to refresh the pace in behind as his team attempted to see out the game. 5

Scott Arfield: Sat at the top of midfield for the final 10 minutes. 4

John Lundstram: Helped to see the game out. 4
