FORMER Rangers player Umar Sadiq has suffered a huge injury blow just weeks after his big money move to Real Sociedad.

The striker joined the La Liga side two-weeks-ago for a stunning £17million.

In Steven Gerrard's debut season at Rangers, Sadiq joined the Ibrox club.

He started just one match against Aberdeen, making four appearances in total, and was never to be seen in a Light Blues shirt again.

Since then, the Nigerian has revived his career at Partizan Belgrade and Almeria.

This form earned him a move to Real Sociedad.

Sadiq enjoyed a dream debut against Atletico Madrid as he scored in a 1-1 stalemate between the sides.

He then started at Old Trafford against Manchester United in a famous Europa League win for the Spanish outfit.

He again played against Getafe on Sunday afternoon, however, was forced off with a nasty-looking injury.

Now, it has been confirmed he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

A Sociedad statement reads: "Sadiq Umar suffered a right knee sprain during the Getafe-RS match, held yesterday.

"After the tests carried out today on the player, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in the right leg. He will a start a physiotherapy treatment.

"However, he will undergo surgical treatment. Further information will be provided in the coming days."
