LIAM SMITH insists Rangers' time-wasting tactics showed Dundee United deserved something from their visit to Ibrox on Saturday.

The Terrors ultimately came away with nothing as an Antonio Colak double cancelled out a Smith goal.

The Tannadice defender insists his side had Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team on the ropes in stages, however, and he was disappointed not to gain points.

He said: “It’s always nice to score. I have a couple against Rangers in the last two seasons.

“It got us back in the game and, from then on, we kind of kicked on.

“When Rangers are wasting time from a corner at Ibrox, you know you’ve done something right.

“They’re having a wee sticky spell, so if you can use that to your advantage and turn the crowd, you will turn the momentum.

“We started the second half well, then lost the second goal, but we bounced back well.

“It’s maybe been a criticism of us this season that we have not done that, but we did this time.

“We got the goal and, from there, we possibly deserved something from the game. When you get into Rangers’ box as much as we did and you don’t take something, it’s going to be disappointing.

“To cause them the problems that we did shows that we put our own stamp on the game. We came here and put in a good performance, but didn’t get any points ultimately.

“So we need to start getting points on the board and use this as a building block.”
