Allan McGregor: A couple of poor kicks in the first half saw possession given up, however McGregor’s only real options were long. Nothing to do in regards to keeping the ball out of the net. 6

James Tavernier: Tried to get forward as often as possible and get around Sakala, however his end product lacked quality. Defensively, he won the ball back a fair few times and was reliable in posession. Started to drive his team up the pitch as the game wore on. 7

Connor Goldson: Marshalled Ramirez successfully and stopped the American holding up the ball, played a couple of diagonals when the opportunity arose. Suffered from a lack of rotations and options ahead of him but limited the vicotors to no chances. 7

Calvin Bassey: Returned to the heart of defence and played with composure. Familiar issues with the ball, although in keeping with the rest of the defence his forward options were limited. 6

Borna Barisic: On his return to the team, the Croatian’s confidence still felt one poor pass away from disintegrating. That said, he remained tight on Besuijen successfully in the first 45, although sometimes faced a two-v-one if Ojo pushed up. Replaced on the hour. 6

Ryan Jack: Reintroduced to everyone’s relief but playing on his own at the base of midfield and not able to burst forward as he does when partnered by John Lundstram Jack’s impact wasn’t felt. Received more support from Kamara after the break and was able to drive with the ball. 6

Glen Kamara: Played higher than Jack and showed a few nice touches to outplay and beat his man, often the end product was slightly lacking in the final third. A fantastic stepover and quick ball into Kent showed how effective the 25-year-old can be when matching talent with tempo. 7

Joe Aribo: Has played with a clear fatigue recently, not that the current schedule offers any hint of relief. That lack of energy showed off the ball and was also missing when the opportunity to inject pace into attacking moves. Looks too jaded to work himself back into form. 5

Fashion Sakala: Managed to run at Jonny Hayes on a couple of occasions but didn’t receive possession quick enough. Blazed a couple of shots over the bar and soon after the break two headers missed the target. 5

Ryan Kent: Like Sakala, play was often only moved into areas he could impact the game by the time the visiting defence had recovered space. Went close with one effort and delivered a few good crosses when chopping back onto his stronger foot. Didn’t have success with his end product but kept going the whole game. 6

Alfredo Morelos: Has played so much football recently and in the first 45 that showed. Won some physical duels but played the game at a slower pace than he has done recently. Was substituted to a chorus of boos. 5

Substitutes:

Scott Arfield: Introduced on the hour, eventually moved central with the right-sided role not accommodating his strengths. Had a penalty shout waved away. 5

Leon Balogun: Came on to allow Bassey his preferred slot at left-back. 5

Kemar Roofe: Hasn’t been favoured under the new regime but made the all-important impact from the bench. 7

John Lundstram: Came on at the base of midfield and helped to see out the game. 5
