Alfredo Morelos' injury that has seen him ruled out until the end of the season was a new problem picked up on international duty, despite speculation to the contrary.

Morelos was pictured with strapping on his thigh area in the match against Dundee on March 20th which has prompted discussion on social media about why the talisman was allowed to depart on a trans-continental flight bound for Colombia.

The Rangers Review understands that the striker was fit to travel and the issue was categorically NOT a complaint previously looked at by the Ibrox club before the player left for South America.

Rangers said in a statement earlier today: "Following an injury sustained whilst on international duty with Colombia, Alfredo Morelos has undergone surgery to his thigh.

"Our medical team are pleased with the outcome of the operation and his rehabilitation programme is underway.

"He will return to training with the first team squad during pre-season.

"We wish him well during his rehabilitation."

More light on the situation will likely be shed at Giovanni van Bronckhorst's press conference scheduled for 9.30am on Wednesday morning.

The loss of Morelos ahead of an April schedule packed with massive games, including a Europa League quarter-final and three Old Firm clashes has been keenly felt by both club and player.
