Rangers face a tough task in their first leg Europa League semi-final tie against RB Leipzig.

Any tie at this stage is of course challenging but the Bundesliga giants are desperate to lift the first trophy of their short history.

Leading the charge is Christopher Nkunku, the hottest forward in the German League not called Erling Haaland.

With 50 goal contributions in 46 games, he has the quality to decide the tie.

But Rangers will point to their ruthless dispatching of Dortmund as evidence of what this side can do against even the best teams.

Here's what the Leipzig stars make of the tie.

Dani Olmo

"Rangers are a very good club with top players, but I think it's their team ethic that stands out – how they work, the support of their fans.

"In Glasgow, football is very important, a long-standing tradition; it won't be easy. It's going to be great for the neutrals. It’s going to be a tie deserving of a Europa League semi-final."

Angeliño

“Dani [Olmo] is a top player. When he’s playing, he gives you peace of mind up top and he also creates chances: he’s a complete player. As for [Christopher] Nkunku, he’s been phenomenal for us this campaign. What he’s done this season is insane. In every game he’s either providing a goal or an assist, and he’s helped us a lot.”

“I think the team has changed a lot since January. We’ve got a different coach and that’s made a big difference, and the team is feeling positive. We’re playing well and we’ve picked up a lot of points since January. We hope that we can finish the season in the way we’ve been playing thus far, and we’re hopeful for that.”

“That the main reason [I am influenced by Roberto Carlos] is his attacking style. He attacked a lot on the wing, and he was a great playmaker. The player I love watching is [Luka] Modrić. For me, he is an incredible player. [Creativity] is another resource that he has, and he uses it very well. He has already shown it and he keeps doing it.”

Christopher Nkunku (to the Daily Record)

“Dortmund has a lot of quality so for Rangers to beat them in the way they did over two games shows that they are a team with a lot of quality.

“We are in the semi-finals – if you have arrived this far in the tournament it is because you deserve to be here.

“At this stage of the season we are just looking at the next game – and we will be doing all we can to get a good result in Germany so we go to Glasgow in a good position.

“We know Rangers will have an intense atmosphere in Glasgow – but we are not even thinking about the second game.

“I expect both games to be intense – it is a big trophy to win and both teams are going to be fighting hard.

“These are the games when one moment can make the difference and I will be working hard.”

Domenico Tedesco (manager)

"When you're in the semi-finals, you always want to go one step further and reach the final, but Rangers definitely have that goal too. They're a really good team. They knocked Borussia Dortmund out over two legs, and when they can eliminate teams of that calibre, you get a sense of the quality Rangers have."
