There was little consternation in the TV studios tonight about RB Leipzig's equaliser but eagle-eyed Rangers fans were quick to point out a flaw in Angelino's stunning winner.

The 85th-minute volley was exquisitely hit by the outstanding Spaniard but multiple viewings show that not one but two RB Leipzig players are standing offside.

That's not normally an issue in itself but in this instance, the pair are arguably interfering in Allan McGregor's sightline when the ball is struck.

The IFAB laws of the game state: "A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:

• interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or

• interfering with an opponent by preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision"

Rangers Review:

In the above still, moved a few frames on from the one at the top of this story, we can see the Leipzig player closest to the goal actually has to manoeuvre himself out of the way of the ball at the last moment.

He changes his body shape considerably to avoid being struck.

It's clear that the offside player is therefore in the way of the ball and impinging on the goalkeeper's ability to react.

39-year-old French referee Benoit Bastien could and perhaps should have disallowed the goal on these grounds.

Further questions can also be asked of the VAR team who should have highlighted the issue to the referee.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will hope his side can win the return game at Ibrox so the tie is not decided by an officiating controversy.
