IT'S hard to believe it was less than a month ago Rangers concluded an emotional 2021/22 campaign as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men get set to return for pre-season training.

The Ibrox side signed off last season by lifting the Scottish Cup for the first time in 12 years, just days after suffering Europa League final heartbreak in Seville.

Rangers will be eyeing a return to the top of the tree in the Scottish Premiership and the fans will be eager to see a few new faces through the door before the start of the league campaign.

The Rangers Review answers all of the big questions ahead of pre-season.

When do the Rangers squad return for pre-season?

Van Bronckhorst's side will reconvene on June 27th, which is just over a month before the start of the Scottish Premiership campaign.

Some players are expected to return later than others, however, with the likes of Borna Barisic, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey, Steven Davis and Fashion Sakala Jr. having been on international duty recently.

Where will Rangers travel for pre-season?

The Gers will make the trip to Portugal for a week of warm-weather training in the Algarve at the beginning of July.

Van Bronckhorst’s side will also face Sunderland in a friendly match at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira on July 9th, where a small section of Rangers fans will be able to attend.

That could also present the Rangers coaching team with an opportunity to view Ross Stewart up close, with the Scotland international having been linked with a move to Ibrox following a prolific goalscoring campaign in League 1 for the Black Cats.

Who will Rangers face in pre-season?

As well as Sunderland, Rangers will entertain Tottenham at Ibrox on July 23rd.

Van Bronckhorst may use that fixture as a dress rehearsal for Rangers’ league opener a week later, while Antonio Conte could unleash several of his big stars with the Premier League campaign set to get underway on August 6th or 7th.

A third pre-season fixture is also believed to be in the pipeline with Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.

When will Rangers get their Champions League qualifying campaign underway?

They will enter the Champions League in the Third Qualifying Round, with the draw set to take place on July 18th.

Possible opponents for van Bronckhorst’s men include Monaco, Sturm Graz, Union Saint-Gilloise and the winner of FC Midtjylland versus AEK Larnaca/Fenerbahce from the Second Qualifying Round.

Rangers will also learn of their potential Play-Off Round opponents prior to the start of their Champions League campaign, which could include a possible clash against one of PSV or Dynamo Kiev.

Should the Ibrox side progress, the group stages for the Champions League will commence on September 6th.

When does the Scottish Premiership season begin?

The league campaign for Rangers begins on the weekend of July 30/31st.

The fixture list for next season will be revealed on June 17th, with the league set to be on pause for five weeks from mid-November due to the World Cup in Qatar.

Meanwhile, the transfer window in Scotland will close at midnight on September 1st.
