RANGERS midfielder Ianis Hagi could be out of action until after the winter World Cup.

The Romanian midfielder suffered a knee injury against Stirling Albion earlier this year and hasn't featured since.

And the Rangers Review understands that while there is no fixed timescale on his return, Hagi could be out of action until the end of the year, ending hopes of any involvement earlier in the season.

Hagi, 23, has been at Rangers' pre-season camp in Portugal this week but Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed on RangersTV that the player would return to Holland at the end of the week to continue rehabilitation.

"Ianis is having his rehabilitation in Holland," the manager said.

"But it’s good to have him here with us again for the week, his recovery is going as planned. He will return to Holland to get back to fitness soon as well."

Van Bronckhorst was asked at today's press conference if he could put a timescale on Hagi's return.

"No, not yet, his injury is a little more complicated," he said.

"We don’t know yet and have to see how he progresses. But I don’t expect him to be back before the World Cup break, which will hopefully give him five more weeks, we will assess then if he will come back after the break."

Hagi arrived at Rangers on loan from Genk in January 2020 and returned on a permanent deal in the following summer transfer window.
