Calvin Bassey is expected to be unveiled at Ajax as early as this afternoon, triggering Rangers to reveal Ben Davies as their latest signing.

Rangers have beaten off significant competition to secure a package worth £4m for Davies with just under £3m in guaranteed payments and the rest coming from potential add-ons.

He will become the sixth signing of a busy summer after John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Malik Tillman.

Bassey's move to the Dutch champions will net Rangers €22m in guaranteed fees, and a further potential €5m in add-ons. They have also negotiated a 10 percent sell-on above the initial price that many feel is likely to bear fruit down the line.

The club is still in the market for a left-back but remains relaxed due to the cover now in the door. Borna Barisic is first choice and the Croatian international retains the confidence of the management team despite mixed form last term. Davies is a natural central defender but has the pace and mobility to move across to full-back if required. Youngster Adam Devine can also play in that role at a push but is a natural right-back.

However, Rangers have a number of targets to push Barisic for the starting slot over the course of a season that are still bubbling away in the background.
