RANGERS kick off their Champions League group stage campaign away to Dutch giants Ajax on Wednesday evening.

The Ibrox club go into the game off the back of an Old Firm trouncing from Celtic but enjoyed success on their last visit to the Netherlands when they defeated PSV to reach the promised land for the first time in 12 years.

Our writers select their Rangers XIs to take to the field at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

After a 4-0 Old Firm defeat it would be commonplace to expect numerous changes. Realistically, Giovanni van Bronckhorst does not have a plethora of options to choose from in Amsterdam.

Although Jon McLaughlin endured a horrible afternoon on Saturday it would be a huge statement to reinstate Allan McGregor at No.1. And although the back four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, James Sands and Borna Barisic have just conceded heavily - who realistically rotates into the side? Perhaps only Ridvan Yilmaz, in need of kickstarting just Ibrox career.

John Lundstram will be joined by Glen Kamara at the base of midfield in an attempt to replicate the duo’s showing last time out in the Netherlands.

The front four is an area where rotation is viable. Ryan Kent was way off the pace against Celtic and could make way for Rabbi Matondo on the left, while Scott Arfield can play from the right and tuck infield next to Malik Tillman who is a certainty to play at No.10.

Alfredo Morelos is likely still not at peak sharpness, but given Antonio Colak has played so much football recently could the Colombian come in for his first start of the season?

Predicted line-up: McLaughlin, Tavernier, Goldson, Sands, Yilmaz, Lundstram, Kamara, Arfield, Tillman, Matondo, Morelos.

In terms of preparation, Rangers couldn’t have geared up for this one in a worse fashion. There could be very little complaints if Giovanni van Bronckhorst made wholesale changes but I don’t think he has the personnel to do so. Also, it’s important to factor in Rangers are a different animal in Europe and while domestically there are glaring concerns, those doubts don’t necessarily linger for matches such as this.

That being said, Jon McLaughlin should be dropped to the bench for his shocker of a performance at Parkhead. Allan McGregor has to be drafted in although Robby McCrorie may also have a legitimate shout for a chance between the sticks.

The backline is likely to remain the same that started against Celtic but it simply has to be more switched on and compact than the rabble that unfolded on Saturday.

John Lundstram will patrol the heart of the engine room with Glen Kamara and potentially Steven Davis playing accompanying roles. This is the midfield that was completely overrun at Parkhead but I reckon they may just get more license to play tomorrow night.

The front three is up for debate. As much as Antonio Colak has been impressive, the match seems ready-made for Alfredo Morelos given he has the ability to lead the line on his own and create opportunities out of lost causes. Rangers need him in the mood, however.

Ryan Kent doesn’t deserve to start based on current form so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Malik Tillman and Scott Wright play a supporting cast to the Colombian.

Predicted line-up: McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Sands, Barisic, Lundstram, Davis, Kamara, Wright, Tillman, Morelos.
