What did you make of the boos at full-time?

They are right. I wasn't happy either. When you play well you get the applause but when you don't play well at a club like Rangers they should boo you. We need to know and feel that the performance in the last half hour is not good enough and we need to improve. Tomorrow we need to analyse the game and speak to the players who underperformed and make sure it doesn't happen again on Saturday. We're through to the semi-finals, but we cannot be happy with the performance. We needed to rotate and it is positive we are through to the semi-final but I’m not happy with the way we played. In the last 25 minutes, we dropped our levels and we didn't have any good movement. I wasn't happy at all with our performance.

Is it frustrating that some people didn’t take their chance?

We have some injuries so we need to keep everyone fresh. Everyone needs to perform and play well when they come in. It’s not always easy when you haven’t played a lot of games, I know that. Still, when you play for Rangers in these moments you have to be there and perform. That’s what we need to improve.

Should Fashion Sakala have been sent off?

I didn’t have a good view that’s why it’s good we have VAR from next weekend. Then we don’t have any discussion after games about this. We have VAR and they decide.

How pleased were you to get Kemar Roofe back?

Very pleased because he had a lot of injuries, he worked hard and his drive is there. He hasn’t played for so long so you could see the energy he brought. It’s good for me to have him back. You need injured players back as quickly as possible so I’m pleased for Kemar that he is back now.

Do you understand the boos?

You’re never happy after a bad performance and the crowd reacts to it, which they have every right to. All we can do, I can do is keep working hard with my players to make sure we are improving and can make the fans proud. We’re still there in the league, working and fighting to become champions. We’re still in the cup competitions, but obviously, you’ll also be honest and see when the performances aren’t well you have to improve.

What do you say to fans who may have concerns?

I said before, when we qualified for the Champions League after 12 years we bring this club back to the Champions League. I knew already that it was going to be tough against the opponents that we faced. The reality is that it’s tough. But that’s all we can do. We want to bring success back to the club, we want to win trophies. But in the last 12 years we haven’t won many trophies. Last season we won the Scottish Cup after 12 years, the League Cup we haven’t won for years. I want to bring those moments back. That’s my aim – for us it’s a habit to win trophies. That hasn’t been the case for many years. That’s what I want to bring back, what the players want to bring back. That’s our work. Sometimes the performances aren’t good. I have been a manager for many years. I had the worst spell as a manager at Feyenoord when we lost seven games in a row. After that, we won five titles in three years. That is football as well. You need to keep working hard and make sure you realise you are not doing well and need to improve. That is the most important thing for me and the most important thing for my players.

Your reaction to Aberdeen in the semi-final?

It’s a semi-final, it’s good to be back at Hampden because it means you are really far in the competition or playing a final. We have many games to be played before mid-January, but it is positive that we are in the semi-final and have the chance to reach the final.
