Player ratings from Rangers' 1-0 win over St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup.

Allan McGregor: The veteran came in for Jon McLaughlin after missing out on the last game against Kilmarnock. The Ibrox legend had little to do as Saints barely threatened throughout the game. 6

James Tavernier: A quiet afternoon from the captain. Up and down as usual but to no great effect. While some question his defending, a stunning, goal-saving clearance off the line saved his team an energy-sapping period of extra time late on. 6

Borna Barisic: Went close with a lovely trademark free-kick in the first half. The pain etched on the Croat's face after it inched wide showed you just how close it was. Not to be denied he got his name on the scoresheet for the first time in two years on the 45-minute mark when he latched on to a rebound from a Sakala effort. His pinpoint shot flew into the top corner, a brilliant show of composure from the left-back. A good display. 7

Connor Goldson: Defended with usual zeal and used the ball reasonably well despite the pitch. He will wonder how he didn't score after his brilliant header was somehow stopped by Remi Matthews as it arrowed towards the top corner. Booked for dissent. 7

Ben Davies: Neat, tidy and untroubled alongside Goldson. There's no doubting his composure on the ball and even the bumpy surface didn't hinder his use of the ball. Has been the subject of some criticism after a couple of mistakes but looks to be settling in well to these eyes at least. 7

John Lundstram: Not an influential display by the Scouser but didn't do much wrong. His battling qualities were crucial in managing and seeing the game out. 6

Ryan Jack: Great through ball for Sakala in the early knockings. Was aggressive to second balls and kept things ticking over. It's so important the Scotland midfielder is fit and available for these types of games where a war of attrition develops. It's still a battle the 30-year-old relishes. 7

Malik Tillman: Not a great pitch for the American to show his true class but there were still plenty of flashes of his undeniable talent, not least his ingenious back heel into the path of Sakala in the lead-up to Barisic's goal. 7

Fashion Sakala: Looked lively from the start and looked to take on his man throughout the game. The Zambian is a threat because he's always direct. Other, more talented members of the squad lack his uncomplicated effectiveness.  Grabbed an assist when Tillman's creative backheel played him in. The brilliant drilled shot flashed across goal but hit the post before rebounding to Barisic. 7

Ryan Kent: Not the quality of surface where you will see the best of a ball carrier like Ryan Kent. Put in his usual shift for the team but there was little opportunity for the English winger to show his quality. His one spark in the whole game came when a brilliant lofted pass picked out Morelos in the box. Left the pitch for Lowry at the end. 5

Alfredo Morelos: Ran about but had little service and didn't have much of an impact on the game. Had his best chance late on when he was set up by Kent. Control didn't let the Colombian down and his shot beat the keeper but it was cleared off the line. 5

Substitutes

Scott Wright: Arrived after 67 minutes in place of Sakala. Looked good after coming on and was unlucky to be denied by the impressive Matthews with an outstanding turn and shot from the edge of the box. 5

Glen Kamara: Entered the fray with 23 minutes to go, replacing Tillman. 4

Alex Lowry: Replaced Kent with seven minutes to play. A lovely pass found Morelos but the striker couldn't find the net. 3

Antonio Colak: Subbed on late to waste time. 1

Scott Arfield: Arrived with seconds remaining. 1
