Rangers in the Europa League final – what does that mean to you?

Right now I’m not really able to tell you exactly what it means to me. It means a lot for the club after everything they’ve been through over the years. Last year we had a good European run and we said at the start of the season we wanted to do it again. It’s just unbelievable. For me, personally, it’s something I’m really proud of. I still have to fathom it. Football can be crazy sometimes. I’ve had difficult periods in my career. I didn’t have a club for a certain period of time, bounced back, made it back to the Bundesliga. After four-and-a-half years at Brighton I didn’t kick my own backside, went to Wigan on loan, then to come here and win the league and now to go to the Europa League final. Obviously what happened at the start of the week [Jimmy Bell’s passing] it makes it that bit more special. I’ll let it sink in for a few days. I’m incredibly happy and proud for every Ranger because it’s what we deserve as a club.

In terms of the performance, the team showed great character once again.

It’s a European night at Ibrox. I don’t want to sound arrogant but I almost expected it. Some people texted me before the game and I replied ‘tonight will be a special night, you’ll see’. Then to get the little bit of thrill and drama, to concede the goal and to then come back with [John] Lundstram again. I said to him on the pitch ‘Could you imagine at the start of the season that you would be having an end to the season like this?’. It’s not over yet, but it’s just incredible. The fans are unbelievable. I’ve seen places in my career, but nothing comes close to this.

A really exciting end to the season now for this squad?

Absolutely – two finals. You couldn’t ask for too much more. As I said before, the passing of Jimmy Bell, it puts everything aside and gives you a different perspective. We’ve done the perfect thing to honour him. We wish he was here tonight because he was looking forward to it like no one else. Now we have to go all the way. That has to be the number one target, to make sure we win the final.
