How do you sum up that game?

Of course, it is a big disappointment. When you lose a European final it will hurt because you have done everything to win. In the end with penalties it is a lottery and tonight we were not on the good side. But I can’t complain about what my players gave me today and throughout this run. It was a really tight game that went all the way and were so close to a trophy. That’s football and big finals, you have memories that last forever when you win them. When you lose it will hurt a lot. I lost the World Cup, that was a huge disappointment but you must move on. We have a big game on Saturday and next season we must start all over again.

You must be really proud of your players?

Yes, there were a lot of subs. It was tough physically but the players gave everything and both teams had to make subs because players were struggling physically. I cannot complain they gave 100 percent and that is all that you can ask as a coach.

Did you bring on Roofe and Ramsey for experience from the spot?

Yes, we prepared well for penalties. Borna Barisic had to go off and he is one of the first penalty takers. We trained penalties, some players don’t need that because they were comfortable. We had a good number who wanted to take a penalty, in the end, we had our list ready and we had to adjust it because of the subs.

What’s the mood like in the dressing room?

It’s very down, you can see that after the game. It’s not nice to lose so everyone is hurt and disappointed. That is normal so soon after a game. Aaron Ramsey is of course disappointment but he took responsibility and you can make it or miss it, unfortunately, he missed but you want players taking penalties who are comfortable doing so.

How much will you reflect on the late Kent chance?

It was a big chance and a great save. In those minutes any goal is decisive, it was a big chance but Ryan did everything to score.

What did you make of the overall performance?

We gave everything, it was a very close game. We started well but also in these matches you must be comfortable on the ball and with our possession play at times we opted for easy balls instead of breaking lines. The chances were there and the effort was there.

How difficult will the cup final now be?

Of course not easy to get them ready, it’s emotional and we are disappointed. But we have to. We fly tomorrow and have one-day preparation. It won’t be easy but we will do our best to be ready for Saturday to end the season with a trophy.
