RANGERS aim to get midfield target Malik Tillman through his medical today as they home in on a major signing coup.

The club are still hoping the loan agreement can include an option to buy the highly-rated 20-year-old down the line should he be successful at Ibrox.

The club have targeted the Bayern Munich midfielder for some time and while the deal is yet to be finalised, they are confident of announcing an agreement soon.

The Rangers Review understands the midfielder is on the radar of Premier League sides and the Ibrox club face stiff opposition to bring him to Scotland.

Tillman has played four times for the German champions, including an appearance in the Champions League against Barcelona. He is a USA international, having featured for Germany at various youth levels.

It's understood he's keen for more game time, something that Rangers can offer.

Rangers Review:

Nominally an attacking midfielder or support striker, Tillman offers Giovanni van Bronckhorst a perfect fit at No.10. He is a goal threat, a physical ball-carrier and strong presser who aligns with the manager's style of play.

Since Joe Aribo departed for Southampton last week, the need for a new attacking midfielder at Ibrox has been clear.

Tillman started his career in midfield before legendary forward Miroslav Klose converted him to play as a striker. However, he prefers to play as a No.10.

"I still have a long way to go to make it as a player and I still have to work on myself a lot," the American international said.

"I changed from being a midfielder to a striker when I was coached by Miroslav Klose. Basically, I'm versatile. I prefer to play as a No.10. But I will play where the coach needs me.

Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann previously hailed the youngster's 'unbelievable' goalscoring ability.

"He has unbelievable qualities when it comes to scoring goals," he said.

"He has the gift of being able to make space for himself. There are aspects of his game he can improve, such as he needs to be more active in pressing. But I predict a great future for him. Malik is a player who will make his mark in the game.

"He is technically and physically strong and his ability to assert himself in one-on-one situations makes him very dangerous. He keeps his calm and composure in front of the goal. Physically, he is surprisingly robust too."
