The manager spoke to the press after Rangers' 1-0 win in Eindhoven.

What went wrong in the build-up?

“We know when to build-up. We train in a certain way but it’s not a must to build-up. I’m not a fan of always building up even when there is high pressure so it is up to the players to make a decision. If it’s an obvious pass I allow the build-up but if there is a lot of pressure then I don’t. It’s not a thing that is demanded."

Did you get the midfield balance wrong?

"The way we planned the midfield positioning saw Joey Veerman drop. It was not an issue on the ball that he was too deep."

Did Rangers find space too easily in the midfield?

“It was visible on both sides that midfielders were found. Gakpo and Saibari in between lines for us. Rangers did very well as well and then it is a matter of coordinating the pressure and if that’s not done simultaneously and forwards go early or distances are too big, the opponent can find free players. In the end, there weren’t too many chances created.”

Did some of your players struggle under pressure?

Rangers Review:

“We were ready and focused, we knew what to do. It was an even game. I don’t think focus had a major influence.”

What did you make of the PSV fans blocking the Rangers bus?

“I didn’t know that happened. I think in the end it’s about the game on the pitch and it’s better to speak about that because it decided the game and nothing else. We have to look at our own performance and find out why it didn’t work with our fans. In the end, it was a bitter night.”

Did your fans’ reaction fire up Rangers?

“We have to look at why it didn’t work for us tonight. It is a bitter night and we have to recover as a whole.”

How did Cody Gakpo play?

“He fought and did everything he could. He had some good opportunities which unfortunately he couldn’t score but he was there and did everything he could for the team.”
