Rangers are back in the big time!

Last night's epic 1-0 victory in Eindhoven against PSV means they are in today's 5pm draw for the Champions League group stage for the first time in 12 years.

Huge names are in the hat, but as Europa League finalists, Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team will feel they have little to fear even at these lofty altitudes.

Rangers are in pot four meaning they are bottom seeds.

POT 1: Real Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt, Manchester City, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Porto, Ajax.

POT 2:  Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, RB Leipzig. Tottenham.

POT 3: Borussia Dortmund, FC Salzburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan,Napoli, Benfica, Sporting CP, Bayer Leverkusen.

Some of the potential draws are tantalising and also, potentially slightly daunting. Here's what our writers reckon would be their dream, worst and best draw.

It doesn't matter who Rangers get, just being in the mix is huge for the financial health and global stature of the club. I'd love to head to Italy for one of the games with AC Milan, Inter and Napoli all attractive destinations but the prospect of seeing Rangers strut their stuff at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples would be especially compelling. Many friends were made in the build-up to the Europa League final so a return with Frankfurt would be a true festival of football and the away trip a party atmosphere in Germany. The best-case scenario looks difficult but not impossible. With a favourable draw you just never know, and given the riches on offer, getting to the last 16 would be a game-changer with a further £15m likely to be on the table for qualification. That said, my worst group would be brutal to pick up points from...

DREAM: Frankfurt, Liverpool, Napoli, Rangers.

BEST: Porto, RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk, Rangers.

WORST: Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Rangers.

Rangers should be aiming for, as a minimum, a third place finish to secure Europa League football after Christmas. The individual and tactical quality of City would be a sight to behold at Ibrox and, although a potential Pot One pairing with Frankfurt or Porto looks enticing, these are the teams that the Gers have worked incredibly hard in order to meet. Juventus are in a state of flux under Max Allegri and it's unlikely Rangers would be blown away by the Italian giants given their manager's risk-averse approach. Van Bronckhorst's men would also fancy their chances of edging Shakhtar Donetsk home and away to seal Europa League knockout stage football next year.

City and Atletico pose two very contrasting but equally mountainous challenges. Pep Guardiola's side will pass you to death while Diego Simeone's men are the most resilient outfit in Europe. Inter, meanwhile, are a well-coached outfit under Simone Inzaghi and boast immense individual quality. Rangers would do well to avoid the annual group of death.

DREAM: Man City, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk, Rangers.

BEST: Frankfurt, Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk, Rangers.

WORST: Man City, Atletico Madrid, Inter, Rangers.

I’d love a crack at Frankfurt over two legs with an actual bona fide striker. I reckon Rangers would have the beating of them home and away and given they are in Pot 1, they are probably one of the weakest clubs in that section. Liverpool, I'd take just because it’s Liverpool and they haven’t started all too well in the Premier League. A Champions League evening at Anfield would be special and I would fancy Rangers to get a positive result at Ibrox. FC Salzburg would be winnable games and give the squad a fighting chance of progressing to the knockout phase.

DREAM: Frankfurt, Liverpool, FC Salzburg, Rangers.

BEST: Frankfurt, Sevilla, Sporting Lisbon, Rangers.

WORST: Man City, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Rangers.
