How have you reacted to the defeat?

It was obviously a huge disappointment. We’ve looked back at it and looked at how we played. The good thing about European football is you have a midweek game to bounce back and try to rectify your performance. That’s what we will try to do. We want to put in a performance for the fans.

What will it mean to lead the team in the Champions League?

It’s a dream come true. Not just as a captain, but a player. It’s every kids dream. When you play football, watch the games. To captain my side is a dream come true.

How has the manager addressed Saturday?

Win draw or lose we look back at the game and how we can improve. This was the same. The staff and boss have put the points across. We always do that regardless of the scoreline. We know we need to put it right.

How key is it to not have a knee-jerk reaction?

Coming into the game, we all know we have to put a performance in regardless. We demand that off each other. Even today in training we all expect high standards and when we drop below that bar, we obviously speak to each other. It’s something we will be demanding from each and everyone in that training room. That our standards are high and we put in a performance we all want.

What can you take from winning in the Netherlands recently?

The goals are something we can all improve on. There’s no hiding from that. That’s the thing about football you’re here to learn and that’s something we have to do. The character is strong, we have experience. We’ve played PSV and Feyenoord but with Ajax’s record we know it will be a tough test. They’ve got good players but that’s why we wanted to be in this competition to go toe to toe with the best teams in Europe.

Is there any weaknesses in Calvin Bassey’s game you can target?

He is a great lad. That’s why he earned his mood. I believe he will go to the top but when we cross that white line tomorrow, he’s one of the players standing between what we want to achieve. We will do everything possible to get what we want out of that game.

Is it a shock to have suffered these two Old Firm defeats?

It’s football, it never always goes the way you want it to. The goals we conceded changes the dynamic of a game. If we rectify that, we don’t want to concede those type of goals again.

Can a win propel you to show your best form domestically?

I believe so. These games take care of themselves. It’s an open game and you’re against better opponents. We want to try and get the momentum back. We want a good result to take into the weekend against Aberdeen?

Is there a fire in the belly to put things right?

I see that all the time. Even when we have won games and the performance hasn’t been good enough. There is always fire there to demand better, we demand that every day. That’s what we want to do tomorrow night to rectify what happened at the weekend and get back to the standards we can be at.
