STEVEN GERRARD last night delivered a salty response when quizzed over Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer.

The 20-year-old striker was on the bench for Villa in the draw against Leeds but was not brought on in the Premier League clash.

Archer has made two sub appearances under Gerrard this season but didn't feature against Leeds having trained just once in the week ahead of the match.

After the match, Birmingham Live journalist Ashley Preece asked Gerrard whether Archer is chomping at the bit for more minutes.

And Gerrard offered a prickly response to the question as he hit back insisting "something's going on".

Biting back at the question over the young striker, Gerrard said: "He's only done one full session. Is he chomping at the bit? 100 per cent.

"You're a fan of Cameron, you, aren't ya? Or are you a mate of the family?

"Something's going on because you've asked me 25 questions this year and I reckon 19 have been on Cam Archer.

"You're a fan aren't ya?"

Journalist Preece then took to Twitter to clarify: "I asked about Cameron Archer. I don't know any of his family, for the record".

Villa have scored just six times so far in the eight Premier League matches this season.

And Gerrard has urged his forward players to be more "ruthless" going forward.

He added: “We need more goals. We need our attacking players to step forward and be more ruthless.

"That tally is not enough at this stage of the season and we know where we want to go.

"We keep working and putting the sessions on and rehearsing the moments that will come their way.

"We have improved slightly defensively and we need to continue that but we need to keep creating these moments and hopefully our players will gobble them up."
