DAVID MCCALLUM has revealed Alex Lowry is nearing a return for Rangers.

The youngster has been out injured since a horror tackle in a rout over Dumbarton.

Lowry was forced off with a nightmare injury blow after a rash tackle from Ally Love.

However, B Team coach McCallum has now offered a positive return update on Lowry.

While Lowry won't be involved in the match against Liverpool in the UEFA Youth League, he is headed in the right direction with staff discussing a timelime for a comeback.

McCallum explained: "He won't be involved in our game tomorrow, it's slightly too soon for that. There's been talk about looking at the fixtures coming up to see where he might get some opportunities.

"He's back training and he's looking good, but there's a bit of care to be taken to make sure that when he does go back into games, he's able to put himself in that environment full-on without any concerns at all, even just in terms of his general fitness.

"You don't want to put him in that environment without having his fitness levels and endurance levels at a point where he can sustain his performances.

"Hopefully he's not too far away. We're having conversations with the staff to see when he might return."
