Rangers legend Graeme Souness admits his old side looked like they lost the psychological battle as well as the football one against Liverpool in the 7-1 thrashing at Ibrox.

He was back at Ibrox as a guest of the club for the Champions League clash in midweek.

The Sky pundit accepts there's an enormous financial gulf between his two former teams, pointing out the £61.5m difference in scale between the top signings of both.

And yet, the 69-year-old reckons there wasn't enough commitment to the plan they started so brightly with in the first half.

He told the Daily Mail: "I was back up at Ibrox as a guest of my old club Rangers on Wednesday night. The 7-1 win made it a wonderful occasion for Liverpool but I was disappointed that Rangers looked like a side with an inferiority complex.

"I accept that the way the Premier League has evolved creates a financial gulf. Liverpool's most expensive player was Darwin Nunez, who cost £68million. Rangers' most expensive player was Ryan Kent, who cost £6.5m.

"But Rangers were either going to get rolled over by Liverpool or get in their faces and they never set about them. They never really believed in what they were doing."
