Is that one of the most frustrating games you have been involved in?

I don’t know about the most frustrating but it’s very frustrating play at home and drop points against Livingston. That’s frustrating.

How much responsibility do the players have to take? Is there collective responsibility?

As a player you need to take responsibility in your actions on the pitch – it’s the same for every player. If you make mistakes, you make mistakes, but the overall responsibility of the team is me. So in that case when you don’t win at home against Livingston then people will talk about the tactics and subs – that’s normal. I’m not happy with our performance. I’m not happy with the way we started. Normally we start on the front-foot at home but today was the opposite. How we conceded the goal is impossible, in my opinion, but it happened. Then you see the opponent getting stronger because they are 1-0 up and they can defend and have some transition moments and with a really physical striker it was hard for us to take those away. Overall we didn’t create enough chances.

Why is there a lack of intensity?

I don’t know the reasons for the performance. If we know all the answers we would play every game fanatastic. But that’s not the case. You have to take into account form of players. We had so many shots but not many on target so we have to be sharper in those moments and have the aggression to connect to crosses we had. I only saw that after we got to 1-1. You need to have that aggression and fight in the 90 minutes before that. That’s my responisibility and it wasn’t enough for a home game against Livingston.

Is it a concern the crowd booed the team off at halftime and full-time?

It’s a difficult moment for us. The margin we had on Wednesday was only one goal so we needed a good win today with three points but we haven’t had that and it’s hard to take. We need to keep working hard. Obviously, we’re not playing the way we can as a team. The players are not performing as they can. If you combine that and lose a goal really early then the confidence goes really low. That affected things throughout the game.

Was it a worrying display on back of Dundee?

In the whole game today we weren’t in the game. That’s frustrating. We need to be playing at home creating chances, and giving no chances away and winning second balls. I don’t know the stats but it looked like we lost every second ball and we didn’t win our duels. And it starts with that. If we match that against the opponent then eventually, we will be the winners. That didn’t happen in the first minutes of the game. To concede a goal like that is impossible for Rangers. We conceded that so that’s something that has to be changed.

What do you put it down to? Too many games?

How many games did we play last year? It’s no excuse if you play three times a week. Everyone in my team can play three times a week with the same intensity and character. That’s no excuse for me.

Do you have a message for the fans?

I said it many times. I understand them and we will work hard to overturn it. It’s understandable that they show their frustration. They want their team to be successful, playing well and get points in Europe. It’s what is expected when you’re a Rangers manager or player. And when that’s not happening you will get criticised. We need to take that as it’s their voice and the fans are so important for every club. We need to make sure we give them the moments to be positive. In the last couple of games we didn’t do that.

It’s Napoli next, how do you pick them up?

It’s a big game against a really good opponent, at the moment one of the best teams in Europe. They are the leaders in Serie A and strong but it’s also a big opportunity for us in this big game on Wednesday. We need to get something out of the game to have a slight chance of going further in Europe. But it’s going to be difficult. First of all my focus is to pick the right team and start in the right manner. We have to do everything we can to get a good result.

Was Leon King injured?

He had to come off because he was feeling a little bit sick and nauseous. So that was why we brought James in.

What about Rabbi Matondo who was a substitute that was then substituted?

Rabbi fell on his back so he couldn’t move so that’s why we took him off as well.

Are you sure the players are still buying in to what you are trying to do here?

What can I say? I am trying my best. As a manager, you have to stick with your beliefs, with your way of playing, and sometimes it is not going the right way. I also understand that. It is one thing for sure when you are not performing as a coach, as a team, when you are not getting your results then of course people will not buy into it. That is not just for me that is for every coach in this profession. You see if it is not going well then eventually it is end of story. That is for everyone. But I think we can still turn it around. I have to believe that we can still play the way that we can play. But we have to put energy into it and for me all the energy goes into my team, into making sure they are ready for the next opponent.

Do you believe your team believe it?

Ask them. You talk with players as well. I have the belief they believe me.

You asked for a response on Wednesday and didn’t get one. What does that tell us?

Yeah, but if it is that easy then everyone would be a coach. Then every game you can say: ‘Guys we need a response on Saturday’. And we win 3-0. It doesn’t work like that. There are so many factors influencing the mind of players. Physically, different circumstances. That is why it is a very demanding job.  We have to not only think about tactics we have to think about players’ mindsets, players’ physicality, tactics. There is also the players’ form. Today we had three or four players who are not in their best form. That is also something you have to do take into account. If you put it all together you will find the line-up. Then again you have to wait and see if the line-up works. It is the most difficult decision you have to make in the job. But I believe my players are still behind me and working hard to overturn this moment.

Can you explain why you went with Scott Arfield on the right?

If you see the way we play and the role of Tavernier it is very important. You can see the games we played last year, a lot in Europe, but also in the league, Tavernier played as a winger. That is a role he can perform. But today it didn’t work out because his positions were too low. That is why you have Arfield going wide. We have played this system many times before, but today it didn’t work. We had to change it to keep the width. But it is also about the performances of the players in their roles. But the tactics today we have played many times before. The execution today wasn't as it was last season.
