• Luck, poor finishing but couldn't ask for more from players
  • Assessing Ross County's goalkeeper
  • The Ibrox atmosphere and title race
  • Call for supporter patience

Philippe Clement has been speaking following Rangers' 3-1 win over Ross County at Ibrox.

Here is everything he had to say.

What are your thoughts on the game?

In my time and this season, it's a game where we had the most shots on target, 23 they told me and I see a team growing week by week, month by month. Of course, you cannot become better game after game, there are always times when something can happen and opponents are different but we had wave after wave of attacks, good possession play, good runs together, good tempo, good shots but we had a goalkeeper on the other side who had an evening of his life and luck a few times also on his side. It could've been much more today but, as a manager, you need to be happy with a 3-1 victory because I cannot ask more of my players than what they are doing now. I think every supporter who was in the stadium today and was there four months ago, they would say, 'What a difference with all the players on the pitch.' This is the thing we need to do now and the next couple of months to continue doing what we've been doing then we'll take a lot of points but it's about doing the hard work every day.

Were you pleased with the quality of chances you were creating?

Yeah, but I think our finishing was also not that bad if you have 23 shots on goal but it's about centimetres. We can do better in that way. We can still raise our level in that way to be more precise but those are the next steps to take. I think the team have taken a lot of steps already. That's extra focus that's been there in the last weeks and months because it's an important part of football but you cannot ask much more of the players.

How much would you have liked that extra goal?

It's more about you feel the momentum when you make wave after wave of attacks. You play good football and create chances, you feel there is another moment to go to score an extra goal. That's nothing to do with the ranking, it's something that I want in every game. There can also be games where in that moment you need to control the game and stop the game. It depends how the game is, how the opponent is and what they are doing. It's about doing the right things at the right moment but I saw this hunger with the team to score more.

Do the fans need to show a bit more patience?

Yes, that's true but I discussed that with the team before the game. That's normal, that's being a fan. Maybe we need to talk about that more with the fans. It doesn't help but our players need to be strong to just remain focused on ourselves and not become anxious. I didn't have the feeling on the pitch that it happened today but it's a danger, indeed. If you start to live the life of fans on the field then you will not reach your goals so we need to step out of that. I'm really proud of the way the players did that today because they never became nervous. They only showed hunger and ambition for more and more.

Do you think the team are in a strong position to win the title?

It depends how many points other teams take. We're only thinking about taking as many points as possible. If we are doing what we've been doing for four months then the rest need to compete really hard to be there also and that's what we're going to do. I said it from the beginning, I'm somebody who wants to win prizes. We've already won, that's the good thing, and we are ambitious for more. All the dressing room is ambitious for more but at the end the only thing you can control is yourself and the points you take so we need to remain focused on that. That's the only thing that's important and not only in one competition but in three. We are the only team in Scotland who are in three competitions so that's also interesting to do that in a really good way.

What did you make of Cyriel Dessers' performance?

I think he had a positive night but I cannot speak about one player that it wasn't a positive night. For me, it's really difficult to pick out individuals after the game because I have seen a lot of quality on the pitch today. I think Jack [Butland] is the only one who could not score today, all the rest created chances so that's the most important thing. I said it at the beginning, a striker, for me, is much more than just scoring goals. They also need to do a lot of other things for the team because the team then becomes better and Cyriel is doing those things and Fabio is doing those things. The goals will follow because they will come into the positions but all the rest of the team also. I don't care if it's the striker who scored the goal or the midfielder or the defender.
