• Quick start was key to convincing win
  • Benefitting from rotation with Silva
  • Assessing the state of play in the title race

Cyriel Dessers spoke to the media after scoring a double in the win over Hearts. Here is what he had to say.

What was the feeling in the dressing room before the game?

After last week, a big part of Glasgow was really high. But in our locker room and on our training ground we didn’t really speak about it. If I looked at training this week, the standards were really high, maybe even higher than before. And that’s what we wanted today. We wanted to make a big statement and I think we did as a team.

The rotation between you and Fabio seems to be working?

We have spoken about it. It’s not easy as a striker to be in a rotation. When you feel good, you feel hungry, you want to go out on the pitch. But we have to see it in the bigger picture. We will hopefully play a lot of games this season in the league, in the cup and in Europe. We will need everyone and we will need everyone fresh. If you look at the results last week I need to agree with the manager. He is doing the right thing. I have told the manager I am hungry and I would love to play every game, but at the end it’s not about me, it’s about the team and what we can have at the end of the season. Everyone is focused on that.

Do you feel like a league winning team?

I think today was a big statement. It was a really good team performance. The result was 5-0 but I don’t think Hearts played a bad game, they are a good team. You can see we are in a good place just now but we have to stay humble, keep our heads down and continue to work hard. Hopefully we can keep this form, obviously.

Is there still more to come?

I’ve said this before, we are a really good team at this moment but I still think there is quite a bit of growth left and I think that’s a really positive thing. That is the feeling of everyone in the training ground and that is why we stay hungry. We need to keep working harder because we know there is more to come.”
