James Tavernier has spoken to the media after the defeat at home to Motherwell. Here is what the captain had to say.

How did you find it out there today?

It’s obviously disappointing. It’s a result we didn’t want to take from the game. It was a poor start by our standards and we conceded a goal. We kept on asking questions but sometimes it’s the fine margins in games where you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net. We obviously get ourselves level. They scored and it was an uphill battle but I thought we fought all the way to the end. Like I said a good, few months ago there are plenty of games still to play. There are nine games left and it’s our second defeat under the manager. We obviously need to bounce back and it’s all about the midweek game which is important and then hit the league again.

Is it all about getting the reaction now?

We’ve shown the right attitude all the way through. Obviously it’s a disappointing day. It’s fine margins with the ball going in the back of the net, clearances off the line from them. We know we can play better so we need to move on from this.

What do you put it down to?

They defended really well with the blocks off the line but I felt we kept asking questions. It’s all you can do. We were hoping the ball would go in the back of the net but it wasn’t to be today. Losing two goals at home is disappointing from a team’s point of view. With the records we’ve been doing ourselves with the clean sheets it’s disappointing.

You now have to respond quickly?

We’ve shown great character until now and I know all the boys in the changing room will bounce back from this. It’s a game where we felt we could have done better and we will rectify it. We have a massive game now on Thursday to obviously bounce back.
