Youssef Chermiti admits Rangers' season has been a failure and is focused on returning after the summer to right the wrongs of this campaign.

The 21-year-old forward, speaking after his side's 2-1 loss against Hibs, which also saw James Tavernier pull out of the matchday squad following a disagreement with Danny Rohl, also said that it was a "sad moment" to not see the right-back play at Ibrox as he waved goodbye to the crowd pre-match.

"Obviously, everyone wanted to see him playing today. It’s his last game at Ibrox, so of course it’s a sad moment," Chermiti said, while reaffirming the situation was "between him and the manager."

The result means Rangers will finish the season with a lower points tally than last season. With so much hope entering the split, this was the fourth defeat in a row for Rohl's side.

And Chermiti insists that after a failure of a campaign, he is hungry to come back and win the title next season.

Asked if standards will need to be raised next season, Chermiti said: "Yeah, for sure, because this season was a failure for us. Obviously, we need to improve and we’ll go again next season.

"I want to win the title, that’s what I’m thinking about. Obviously the first few months in Scotland were a bit difficult for me, but I had some time to settle down. As I said in previous conferences, I feel more confident in the team and in the country as well.

"I think everyone gave me more confidence, and even on the pitch I feel more confident. As I said, this season has been sad for us. We had a goal and we didn’t get it, but this is football and we’ll go again next season."
