Allan McGregor: Didn’t make a save throughout. When under pressure with a lack of options early in the second half he was calm and composed to progress the ball. Also commanded area well on one occasion to fist clear a ball that looked dangerous. 6

James Tavernier: Endured an underwhelming performance against Malmo and was similarly quiet. His final ball wasn’t at its usual standard and he didn’t perform many take-ons. But to his complete credit, he stood up when it mattered - clipping a perfect ball to a perfectly timed Morelos run. 7

Connor Goldson: In the first 45, like most of his team he wasn’t guilty of doing all that much wrong – more problematically he was certainly guilty of doing little right. But as with the rest, when the side needed to rise up he did and performed well in the second half. Should have done better with a late header. 6

Filip Helander: There was much acclaim for him to start the game following last week’s defensive debacles. Was up against Jose Embalo, who gave him one or two nervy moments in the first half. One of which saw him wrestle the forward to the ground. 6

Calvin Bassey: The brightest home player early on, managed to skip by his opposing man to deliver one or two tempting crosses – but definitely displayed the best intensity of any Rangers player. In the second half he was a warrior, on more than one occasion driving his team forward singlehandedly and fighting for every ball even if it was 90/10 in the opposing man’s favour. He embodied the desire from the stands. 8

Steven Davis: A typical Davis performance – when it all seemed to be going terribly he continued to demand the ball. He is perhaps the only player whose game looks no different whether the team are on top of the world or in a slump. Got caught on the ball in a terrible area at 0-0 in the second half but recovered expertly seconds after. 7

John Lundstram: He sped the tempo up on a couple of occasions, but as has been in the case in recent weeks didn’t look all that comfortable dropping into progress the ball and played a couple of glaringly overhit passes. His red card was the culmination of two avoidable yellows - first being sold by a drop of the shoulder by Khurtsidze and then pulling at Boljevic. 3

Joe Aribo: In the first half he was guilty of not driving his team forward when the opportunity was there to do so, despite a couple of nice touches. He battled back in the second period down the left to help retain what could have otherwise been a disastrous situation. 7

Ianis Hagi: Demanded the ball often on the half turn and sought to find avenues beyond the Alashkert line – displaying far more energy than the other two members of the front three. In the second half he ran his socks off to help his team, covering defensively but also making up numbers in attack – he did all the hard yards and continued to track back when he pulled up with cramp in injury time. 8

Ryan Kent: Had a very flat first half in complete contrast to an energetic and enthused opener last week against Malmo – this time dropping far too deep and straying from attacking positions. Also snatched at a couple of shots. Was replaced at half time. 5

Alfredo Morelos: Didn’t have any major involvement until half way into the first period when he showed sparks of involvement and interest – but still nowhere near the positive performance from last week. As the game became an occasion after the red card, he really arrived – showed composure to score a one-on-one through the legs of Cancarevic. Left to a deserved standing ovation. 7

Substitutes:

Scott Wright: Introduced at the restart in place of Kent, he came close to assisting a Hagi goal right away. Provided an energy and intention which had been completely lacking up until that point. His optimistic and positive performance was a big part of the reason the mood lifted. 8

Scott Arfield: Came on with 10 or so minutes to go and maintained the energy levels in the midfield. Always reliable when called upon and helped to see the match out. 5

Cedric Itten: Replaced Morelos soon after Arfield had come onto the pitch. Chased everything and had a couple of sniffs at chances. 5
