CEDRIC ITTEN has opened up about the manner of his departure from Ibrox at the end of last month.

The Swiss striker joined Rangers from St Gallen in his homeland last summer but struggled for game time in Glasgow, with Kemar Roofe or Alfredo Morelos usually Steven Gerrard's first pick for the solitary centre-forward role within his system.

The 24-year-old scored six times in his debut campaign in Govan - including important strikes against Motherwell that helped Rangers on their way to a first top-flight title in ten years - before being shipped out on loan to Bundesliga outfit Greuther Furth on a season-long loan last month.

Speaking to ESPN's Derek Rae, Itten admitted that he found it difficult to dislodge the likes of Morelos and Roofe from the starting line-up at Ibrox.

"I wish I could have played more there but we had a big squad that was largely together for three years without notable departures," he explained.

"It wasn’t easy to play yourself into the side."

However, Itten insists that he has no regrets over his decision to move to Rangers - adding that playing in a new culture has helped him, as has his manager's knowledge of the sport.

"I benefitted from being in a new country and from a different type of football," Itten explained.

"Steven Gerrard is definitely a big personality, very well equipped tactically and I was able to learn a lot."
