RANGERS return to Premiership action on Sunday as they host Motherwell at Ibrox on Flag Day.

Steven Gerrard's men will be keen to put Thursday's defeat to Lyon in the Europa League behind them and cement their place at the top of the league.

Our writers assess what the team might look like.

Rangers may be sitting pretty atop the Scottish Premiership table but the spark has yet to be lit for their season.

While you have to take into account the quality of the opposition against Lyon, the Ibrox side didn't look the punchy, powerful outfit that swept aside all before them last season. It's been a difficult start marked by close battles and the Govan side aren't operating anywhere near their brilliant best.

In attacking areas, they have looked slightly bereft of ideas and there appears to be a creative malaise that must be quickly arrested.

Even without injuries to Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent you'd have expected changes but there's an opportunity for the likes of Fashion Sakala, Scott Wright and Kemar Roofe to show their quality.

Steven Davis looked miles off his usual level on Thursday and will be rested while Leon Balogun played well but will be rotated out to keep him fresh.

Predicted line up: McGregor, Barisic, Tavernier, Goldson, Simpson, Lundstram, Kamara, Aribo, Wright, Sakala, Roofe.

Allan McGregor should retain his place in goals on Sunday, while Jon McLaughlin will play in midweek against Livingston.

Nathan Patterson would be expected to start, why not give him this match along with the midweek cup fixture? Leon Balogun will likely partner Connor Goldson again in defence, again with a view of Jack Simpson rotating into that position come Wednesday. Barisic will make up the compliment.

Steven Davis looked like he needed a rest in midweek, while John Lundstram impressed. Joe Aribo is likely to drop down a line and partner the Englishmen in midfield alongside Glen Kamara. Juninho Bacuna can expect minutes in midweek, too.

With the knowledge that Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent both look set to miss this game, Kemar Roofe, Scott Wright and Fashion Sakala seems the obvious front trio. Sakala needs to get going in a Rangers shirt, while both Wright and Roofe are dead certs.

We may see a vastly different side to the one that started against Lyon on Thursday night given some enforced changes.

Allan McGregor should retain his place between the sticks but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Jon McLaughlin return given he’s played the majority of league games.

There may be changes in the backline, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Jack Simpson and Calvin Bassey return to the starting XI. Personally, it would be great to see Nathan Patterson also but he’s more than likely to start on the bench.

The midfield is an interesting one, Steven Davis looked jaded against Lyon and rightfully removed midway into the second half, could this be the chance for Juninho Bacuna to make his Rangers bow? John Lundstram came in and performed reasonably well on Thursday and the former Sheffield United man should hold onto his place alongside Glen Kamara.

Up top and with Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos missing, the front three should consist of Kemar Roofe, Scott Wright and either Joe Aribo or Fashion Sakala. My money is on Aribo with the Zambian coming off the bench.

Predicted line up: McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Simpson, Bassey, Kamara, Lundstram, Bacuna, Wright, Roofe, Aribo
