PATTERSON IS THE REAL DEAL

Steven Gerrard made the bold decision to drop his captain James Tavernier, but Nathan Patterson stepped up to the plate.

The youngster put in a great shift down the right flank and he provided a number of pinpoint deliveries into the box. His most notable cross was for Kemar Roofe who grabbed the equaliser with a header. Patterson has once again been named in the Scotland squad for the upcoming international break and Steve Clarke will find it incredibly difficult to ignore the performances of the Rangers man. Stephen O’Donnell has been a favourite of Clarke’s, but Patterson offers a more attacking option but is also astute defensively.

RAISE THE ROOFE

Kemar Roofe provided the goods to haul Rangers back into the game when they needed it. The former Leeds striker provided the spark that Steven Gerrard’s side needed as they searched for a route back into the game. Up until Roofe’s introduction, Rangers lacked a cutting edge in the final third. The Ibrox outfit saw plenty of the ball in the first period but struggled to find their form in front of goal. Roofe was Rangers’ top scorer last term in the Scottish Premiership and he could prove to be an important figure this term if he continues to chip in with some key goals over the course of the campaign.

MORELOS IS THE MAIN MAN

Roofe may well have made a big impact from the bench but it just had to be Alfredo Morelos who popped up with the winner. The Colombian had a relatively quiet afternoon up until his goal, but again his link-up play was impressive. The 25-year-old had more room to strut his stuff in the final third when Roofe joined him at the top end of the park and that ultimately allowed him to grab the winner. His movement to peel away from his marker was top notch and his headed finish was equally as impressive.
