JIM WHITE has revealed Steven Gerrard is "extremely happy" at Rangers despite speculation linking the Ibrox boss with a move to Newcastle.

The talkSPORT host was discussing the possibility Gerrard could be in line to switch Glasgow for the Toon with Steve Bruce reportedly set to lose his job.

However, White insisted Gerrard is more than happy at Ibrox but admitted there could be an appeal to move under the new Saudi ownership.

Speaking with Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy, White said: “I do know for a fact he is extremely happy with life at Rangers.

“Do Newcastle have a global support? I would suggest not, but Rangers do.

“He is now immortalised in the eyes of these Rangers supporters because he stopped Celtic winning 10, so there is an argument that could be run that he has done his job, he’s stopped them, would it be time for a move to another club?

“And this isn’t any other club, this is Newcastle under new Saudi ownership.”

Murphy revealed he is confident Gerrard will stay at Ibrox, branding a move to struggling Newcastle as a "risk".

Asked if he could see Gerrard heading to Newcastle Murphy said: "I don't think he would. My instinct says no he wouldn't.

"At this stage in Newcastle's evolution it would be too much of a risk for him.

"A relegation battle, they're not guaranteed to stay up no matter who is in charge.

"I'd be surprised if he did jump ship."
