A TALENT spotter behind a failed bid for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is reportedly on Newcastle's radar for a sporting director role.

Luis Campos, formerly of Lille and Monaco, has been linked with a move to Newcastle under the newly Saudi-backed club.

Campos, 57, is among the highest rated scouts in Europe and could be brought to Newcastle to oversee the transformation at St James' Park.

Sky Sports News report that the man behind Lille and Monaco's major success both domestically, winning the league, and on the transfer front is under consideration for the sporting director role.

And it could mean further interest in Rangers star Morelos who Campos wanted to sign for Lille last year.

Such was Campos' belief that Morelos would be a top signing, that he was embroiled in a power struggle within the Lille boardroom to force a bid for the Colombian.

A £16.5million offer for Morelos was booted out by Rangers, but it's thought personal terms were agreed should a transfer fee of £20m be matched.

If Campos was to head to Newcastle, then it could spell another period of transfer speculation over Morelos. But the striker is tied down at Ibrox until 2023.
