Alan Brazil has been skewered over comments on Steven Gerrard potentially leaving Rangers for a move to newly minted Newcastle United.

The talkSPORT pundit has made several comments on the tenuous link that first came about as bookies odds on the Scouser replacing Steve Bruce tumble.

Bruce remains in the post for now, although speculation on his future continues unabated.

And Brazil reckons Gerrard might fancy the move as part of a long term plan to return to Liverpool as manager.

He said: “Forget the Celtic-Rangers situation, for Steven to take a big, big club, Rangers are a big club worldwide, probably bigger worldwide than Newcastle, to manage in the Premier League against the big boys, would be a great stepping stone for Steven Gerrard.”

But his co-host and former Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has clearly had enough of the subject and feels Celtic-daft Brazil may be trying a touch too hard.

He sighed: “Not again, he’s trying to get rid of Steven Gerrard!”
