ALEX MCLEISH has urged Rangers star Ianis Hagi to stay put at Ibrox amid transfer speculation linking him with a move abroad.
Some reports have suggested that Roma are interested in the Romanian international for a fee of £17million.
McLeish admits Hagi is great talent but he is keen to see him stay at Rangers for the time to cement his spot as a regular starter under Steven Gerrard.
“When you put in a good showing for your country, scoring against one of the best nations in the world, it will lead to interest,” McLeish told Football Insider.
“Hagi, over the past couple of years, has tried to cement himself as a regular for Rangers.
“That’s the level he’s aspiring to, but he’s found it difficult with Rangers having the collection of technically gifted players they do.
“It would really benefit him to stay put at the moment and see where it can take his career a couple of years down the line.
“If he has continued success with Rangers, winning trophies and earning good money, then what’s the point in leaving?”
