Allan McGregor: It was a testy, midfield battle of a game which meant the veteran had little to do other than pick the ball out of the net. He had no chance with Balogun’s headed own goal which was from close range and whizzed low to the keeper’s right. 6

James Tavernier: Much less of an attacking danger than usual in the first half but stepped up in the second. His one moment of creative clarity came from a lovely free-kick into the area just before halftime that found Aribo but the Nigerian headed over. Started to find a bit of joy in the half space but didn’t make use of it with too many poor deliveries. Showed excellent defensive nous at the death to turn a cross away from Hedlund when the goal was at his mercy. 6

Borna Barisic: Slack with a pass in a dangerous position high up the pitch after 17 minutes that nearly put his team in serious trouble. Was a much more conservative performance than we are used to from the Croatian - which was clearly part of the game plan. Subbed after 80 minutes when he ran out of steam. 6

Connor Goldson: A big performance from the Englishman. His passing was on point and defended stoutly. Made a brilliant tackle on Hedlund as the striker looked ready to get a shot away in the box. Looked dangerous at the other end and came close to scoring with a header that was cleared off the line. 7

Leon Balogun: Strong on the ball and used his pace well against Uhre. Had defended resolutely until he reacted to a flick-on from a corner in the centre of the box, nodding it past McGregor with what looked like an instinctual action. Had the chance to make amends for his error with a lovely swivel kick from 15 yards but he fired it down Hermansen’s throat. Unfortunate moment apart, he was a solid performer once again. 7

Scott Arfield: Showed the occasional burst forward in the first half, and as usual can't be faulted for working hard but didn’t get much joy with his trademark third man runs. He did make a major contribution with a crucial block from a close-range Tshiembe shot inside the box, stopping a certain goal. 6

Steven Davis: Wayward effort on 16 minutes from distance was the sum of his attacking contribution. Gave the ball away with unusual consistency in a hurly-burly game where fluency was missing from both sides. Battled away in the middle of the park but couldn’t find a moment to make his experience and class count. Subbed after 72 minutes for Bacuna. 5

Glen Kamara: A quiet night for the Finn in the first half but was his usual industrious presence and used the ball well in the second. Was key in taking the ball in tight spaces high up the pitch and manoeuvring it to a colleague. 6

Joe Aribo: Strugggled in the first half as part of a malfunctioning forward line. Opened up the Brondby defence with a couple of nice passes but was on the periphery of the game. Burst into life once moved deeper in the second half and it was his sublime flick that opened the space for Ryan Kent to create the equaliser. 6

Fashion Sakala: Sent through by Aribo after nine minutes but angled his drive just wide. Put his strike partner Morelos to shame with constant movement and pressing and was unfairly booked for a challenge on Bruus. A lovely stepover left the same player bamboozled. He also left everyone’s hearts in their mouths when he lunged in after losing the ball on the 41st minute, a tackle far worse than the one he was carded for. Subbed after 55 minutes after a slow start to the second half. 6

Alfredo Morelos: Received an early yellow card after a heavy touch left him diving in to control the ball. Nodded home minutes later but James Tavernier’s cross went out of play. Close on nine minutes and then with a low, long-range effort on 22. Link-up was sharp but could have done more running to help his teammates. Subbed after 55 minutes for Kemar Roofe. 6

Substitutes

Ryan Kent: Added threat immediately after coming on and won a corner after a delicious nutmeg on Frendrup. Wonderful direct run and pass to create Hagi’s goal. Such an important player at this level and proved it again. 7

Kemar Roofe: Looked lively upon entering the fray but didn't have a huge impact. 5

Ianis Hagi: Slick interplay with Kamara moments after coming on allowed him to poke a lovely through ball to Roofe but there was slightly too much pace on the ball. Superb finish low and to the keeper’s right after being slipped through by Kent for a crucial equaliser. 7

Juninho Bacuna: Came on with 20 minutes to go but was quiet. 3

Calvin Bassey: Arrived late after replacing Barisic and defended well. 3
