GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst was reportedly formally interviewed by Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson this morning.

The Dutchman, 46, is on Rangers' list of potential replacements after Steven Gerrard left for Aston Villa earlier this week.

And reports today claim Van Bronckhorst has been interviewed by Wilson in London today.

Bookies odds have the former Feyenoord boss as the clear front-runner for the post with Frank Lampard an outside bet after ruling himself out the running for the Norwich job.

The Scottish Sun now report face-to-face discussions between Van Bronckhorst and sporting director Wilson have taken place.

But we revealed last night that Rino Gattuso and Lampard are also being considered by Ibrox chiefs for the role.

Ibrox hero Ally McCoist gave his support to a move for Van Bronckhorst but went on to name a host of possible candidates including Dean Smith and Derek McInnes.

He told Sky Sports: "I don't have a problem with that at all. I like Giovanni.

"I think he's got a good record at Feyenoord, good record in China.

"Obviously he knows the club, knows the set-up and played there long enough.

"It isn't a necessity but it certainly doesn't hinder you, if anything it helps you. He's another one that is young and hungry."
