What does it mean to you to be returning as manager?

"Very honoured, I have history with the club, I played here for many years, when I was younger, so for me to be coming back to this club, and be able to be the manager of this team, is for me, a very proud moment.

"I think it's the feeling I have, I have always been connected with the club. After I left the club in 2001 to go to Arsenal and onwards in my career, I always watched the results. I have very good relations from my time with Rangers.

"I still speak with a lot of ex-team-mates, so Rangers has always been a special club, it was my first club abroad and, for me, to be able to come back when the job was offered to me was very exciting, it meant I was going to a place where I really knew.

Can you talk us through the last week, how you heard and the interest and why the deal was done so quickly?

"It's been quite a hectic week, I think the first contacts were made last Thursday, it's a bit different in Scotland than with other teams I had, you have to come into a job interview "So I met Ross for the first time, it was in London on Saturday, we also talked with the board, and some of the directors.

"For me it was new, I had to talk about my way of working, my philosophy, how I see things, the club could also give me a presentation of how they were working.

"It felt really good from the beginning, but of course I had to wait the final decision and after we had the second interview Tuesday, I knew I was becoming the new Rangers manager.

"A hectic week, but I think it is very positive."

Do you see this as a unique opportunity? "You see the team is in a good moment, they have been working very hard to become the team they are now.

"Steven did a great job in helping them become as strong as they are now. For me, it's just the case of continuing this positivity, to help the club and help the team become even better.

"I think we are always a club who wants to win prizes, and win trophies. I had that as a player and I also have that mentality as a coach. I am looking forward to helping this team forward.

Do you have a style of play you envisage using under your management?

"I was brought up in the Dutch system, playing with teams who always try and attack, be dominant.

"We had it the Rangers team, the Dutch team, with Barcelona. The capablity of being very dominant.

"I like to be dominant as a coach as well. That philosophy doesn't change, on the training pitch, in games, you have got to have the same thinking.

"I am looking forward to bring that into the team and to make sure that we are getting better and stronger in every game we play."

What do you make of the playing squad who are a team of winners already?

"It is very good, winning the title last season has given the team a lot of confidence. It has given the club a moment to cherish and celebrate. I think for me that's the desire you need to have to become successful, to win prizes.

"If I look back in my career and look back at the prizes I won as a coach, those are the moments you work hard for. We are working hard to achieve many more for this club."

Will it be helpful for you the likes of Jimmy Bell and Allan McGregor are recognisable faces?

"It's always good to come into a place where you already know some people.

"Jimmy Bell is a special person, in the first days of my time here at Rangers, I couldn't have met a (better) true Scotsman from the beginning. It was very difficult for me to understand him but, for me, he is one of the pillars of what the Rangers identity is. So it is good to see that Jimmy has been with the club for many years and I am looking forward to seeing him again.

"I probably will understand him a bit better than my first time."

You mentioned Ross Wilson, how do you see your relationship working with him?

"The last week we have had very good contact, always open in communication. He talked me through the steps the club wants to take and since my arrival here in Scotland, we have been talking quite a lot., and planning already the coming weeks.

"He's a very good person, sometimes you can feel from the first moment how people are, Ross is a very warm person and we are getting along well with each other - I think that is a good base for our working relationship.

How much are you looking forward to seeing the young talent coming through the academy that can impact the first team squad?

"I think for me that is very important, as a player I was brought up in the Feyenoord academy, I'm always fond in working with young talents. I've done it in my clubs, the youth academy is a very important part of this club. They are getting better and better every year. in the way they want to make players better. I am looking forward to recognising the talent in their first steps into the first team, hopefully.

Do you have a message for Rangers supporters?

"I am looking forward to seeing them again, to feel the atmosphere they bring. The first moment for me was the away game with Shelbourne, after World Cup 1998. I already sensed the impact they had. In all the games after that, especially in Ibrox, they are very important for the team, so I am looking forward to meeting them again, to work together and be successful at this club."
