Any team or injury news?

We don’t have any other injuries for the game. Everyone came out of the game really good, of course, tired. It's good that there aren’t players unavailable for Wednesday. Kemar Roofe was on the training pitch today and we will assess him tomorrow to be part of the squad.

When you look back at the performance and result, how pleased were you with your Premiership debut?

I’m very pleased because you want to win the game. That’s the first objective. Get the three points. Also, the way we played under difficult circumstances on an artificial pitch. It wasn’t easy but we started the game really well. Deservedly we were 2-0 up. The only thing we have to do better is the last 15 minutes of the first half we lost a little control of the game. Livingston were allowed back into it with the goal and the chance to make it 2-2. In those moments of the game, we have to be more clinical and defensively solid. I think the second half was better than the first half because we didn’t give any chances away and the only thing I could tell my players was to make sure of the win much earlier. We had the chance but only go the goal from Sakala from a corner kick. We dominated reallly well but forgot to close the game earlier or at the earliest possible time.

Is Hibs a chance to write a few wrongs from the Hampden defeat?

Of course we look back to the game. We played and lost. It will be a difficult game on Wednesday because it’s not the same way of playing. I have a different style than the team used on that day. You can see the threats that Hibs have with the system and players they have got. They were very solid on the day, very clinical in the chances they had. They deserved to win the game on that day. That’s what we take from the game last week but Wednesday is a new chance for the victory.

You changed the shape a couple of times yesterday and even went to a 4-4-2 at the end of the game yesterday, is this one of the positives of the squad that you can used different shapes and tactics?

It’s quite a big squad with a lot of different qualities and strengths in the players. I know to be dynamic in the system and changing within the system is very important now in modern football. We also have the players to do so. In that objective, I’m very happy with the balance in the squad. We will prepare every game differently because different opponents need different strategies and different players as well. I’m just happy with the depth this team has.

Do you see Fashion Sakala as a more central striker in the long term or as a winger?

He can do both. He played also as a striker. He plays on the left but I can use him on the right. He’s one of the players who is very versatile and also has the qualities to be dangerous in whatever position. As a coach, I love to have players who can be used in different positions.

Filip Helander was due back in December. Is there any update on him?

He is outside on the pitch again so we have to bring him slowly back to fitness levels which are required to play games. I expect him to take part in training at some point this month. He’s been an important part of the team and if he’s fit I have more options at the back.

How impressed have you been with Calvin Bassey?

Really impressed because he’s a young, intelligent defender. He normally plays left-back and didn’t have much experience in the central areas so I’m really happy with his performances. He has the physical qualities to play there and we will help him a lot in that position. When he has to pass, when he has to dribble, the position he has to take when the other defender has the ball. He’s a player who’s very open to learn and he gives a lot of energy to the team so the last two games I’ve been really happy with the way he’s played.

Nathan Patterson came on at right-midfield against Livingston, is that something we can expect to see again?

It’s an option to me, especially in games like yesterday and against Prague when you’re playing well and need to defend an advantage. In Nathan, you have a player who is defensively very solid. His combination with James is excellent and that’s an option to give the defence a little bit more solidity but keep the pace up-front when we need it.

It was great to see Jermain Defoe getting back on the pitch. What’s he been like behind the scenes?

He’s been really good. When I came he was part of the coaching staff as well as a player. He’s working away on his badges which is really good so he’s starting to think about team process and tactical possibilities but for now, Jermain is a player, I will use him only as a player and his qualities are sometimes needed in games. With Kemar out in the last few games, Jermain could not play as he was not eligible in Europe but I still think he can have an important role in the season.
