How important is it for you to have support away from home?

I think it’s massive. Obviously with the short notice of everything going on. We will still have a massive crowd there I’d imagine. They follow us everywhere through thick and thin. So, it’s obviously a big one for us and it’ll be an enjoyable one [trip] for them.

Can you say a few words on the challenge Lyon will pose?

We’re under no illusions of how much of a good team this Lyon side is. We saw that at Ibrox a couple of months back, it was a tough night. I thought we did quite well on the night but couldn’t get the goals we wanted. They have some massive individual quality throughout the team and we’re under no illusions that it’s going to be a tough game.

Steven Gerrard had great belief in you. Have you been asked to do anything different under the new manager?

You’re playing in midfield, you’ve always got a certain role you’ve got to carry out when you’re in midfield. You’ve got to be able to pass the ball, you’ve got to be combative, want the ball, be energetic. I think most managers would demand that of the midfielder anyway, so not massive changes. Obviously, the No.6 role is something that the new boss likes to play with as well. We can see the little tweaks that the new manager has made and it’s working.

How are you finding the new manager’s system? Do you feel settled into life at Rangers?

Before the gaffer left [Gerrard] I was settled in, it’s a great bunch of lads here and the city is a lovely city to live in. The new gaffer has come in and the lads have been doing magnificently well so I’m just biding my time to get my chance and hopefully I can take it.

The midfield competition will only be increased by Ryan Jack’s return – is that another challenge for you?

Definitely, as everyone knows the squad depth is massive. There’s a couple of players for every position that can easily play in the first team – that only aides the club going forward. To win things you’ve got to have strength in depth. There is massive competition and that only stands us in good stead.

Rangers have 8 games in December – does that ask a lot of the players?

Yeah, it does ask a lot when you’ve got when you’re playing every two or three days it takes its toll. As I was just saying there about the squad depth I’m sure you’ll see the full depth of the squad this month with the number of games we’ve got. It definitely does take it out of you and the number of games we have these days is a bit mad. But it is something you’ve got to take in your stride.

We seen you in a back three against Hibs – has the manager spoke about doing that again?

I’m not sure, to be honest. I could slot in there if needed. Wherever the gaffer calls upon me I’ll obviously be there to help the team - whether that’s something going forward the gaffer sees I’m not sure. But if needed there I’ll try my best to fill a void.

Is tomorrow a big opportunity to get out on the pitch and show the manager what you’re capable of?

Definitely, if selected you’ve got to go and take your chance. Every game is an opportunity to showcase yourself. We’ve got paying fans to go over there and watch us perform so we’ve got to go over there and put in a display definitely.
