Allan McGregor: Rangers' No.1 made a really strong save from Liam Boyce with the game at 0-0 and was quick off of his line with the game 1-0 to stop a chance materialising. A superb late double-save capped off his strong individual showing. Like others, looks revitalised by the change in management. 7

James Tavernier: The captain continues to play more of a support role in possession, even more so given he had Fashion Sakala ahead of him who is far more inclined to go forward. Was a reliable out-ball in possession and defended the back post really well as Hearts pressure increased. 7

Connor Goldson: His assist for Joe Aribo’s goal was quintessential Goldson. Setting the tempo from the back, picking his moment and then delivering an on the money pass for the teammate to score. Continued his good form at the back, although did appear to cause a nervy high-line moment that Boyce could have profited from. 8

Calvin Bassey: A different challenge up against the skilled Liam Boyce. His ability to stick tight and not be rolled easily was to his benefit. Looked comfortable once more in possession and dealt well with a number of midfield runners. Brave in playing out as the game wore on but his risks came off. Showcased his pace and power with an incredible run from one end of the pitch to the other that resulted in a shot on Gordon's goal. 7

Borna Barisic: Like Tavernier, was part of the back five instead of the front collective. Was marking Josh Ginelly and had plenty of play coming down his side. Also picked good moments to try and arrive on the overlap, if sporadically. A strong performance, one moment aside where he allowed a cross to come in too easily. 7

Glen Kamara: As the sole No.6, it was a struggle for Kamara to really get a foothold and play through once his team were ahead and Hearts chasing the game. Took the ball in risky central areas to take his team forward. Lots of examples of his quality in tight areas. The cornerstone for a win. 7

Scott Arfield: Did all the yards asked of him as usual even if his runs beyond were limited. Should have scored when through one-on-one with Craig Gordon near the hour. Provided a combative option at the top end of midfield. Also missed when Morelos played the ball across goal. 6

Joe Aribo: His goal epitomised the change witnessed under Van Bronckhorst. The Nigerian appears unleashed in attack – and his first touch to set up the second goal was marvellous. Also did hard yards without the ball. In the second half, he played deeper as his side protected their lead, remaining closer to the defence. 8

Fashion Sakala: Played an unfamiliar role to the right of midfield. Looked likely in space at points and could have scored soon after Morelos’ opener. Struggled with his back to goal in a confined space but always looked dangerous running at opponents. Had two good moments in the second half, beating his marker to test Gordon. 7

Alfredo Morelos: The Colombian forward continued to look revitalised under his new manager. When he dropped down a line he held off his marker well, providing a strong focal point. His goal was really well taken and an excellent turn and pass should have granted him an assist, but Arfield hit the keeper. As he did in 2019, the forward stole the show in the capital. 8

Ryan Kent: Playing with chalk on his boots again, his simple turn, drive and cross for the opening goal showed how effective Kent can be when playing directly. Soon after his opening run for Morelos' goal a similar action also provided for Sakala. A quieter second period but looked threatening throughout while doing plenty of defending. 7

Substitutes

Scott Wright: Came on to the right of midfield with around 20 minutes remaining. Had a couple of runs at Kingsley. 5

John Lundstram: Replaced Fashion Sakala for the final 10 minutes of the game. Helped calm down ball progression by playing next to Kamara. 5
