You’ve been in the job for a month, how would you sum it up?

It’s always good to know your players really well. In the four weeks I’ve been here I have a much better feeling about the squad, the players, the characters, their qualities. For me personally, that’s been very positive.

Of course the results also helps. When you come into a new job, especially during the season, it’s not easy. But, I think we’ve focused really well on the most important aspects I wanted to change. The players received the message really well and at the moment I’m really happy with the performances, the state of our squad and the points we’ve won.

Will you be looking to get the likes of Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent tied-down on new contracts over the winter break?

We have to see. Especially the players who are playing really well at the moment, they’ll have lots of interest. I’d rather have this situation than players who aren’t playing well. I know of course when you play well you get interest. Of course, I like all my players, but sometimes you have to make a decision if you get new contracts. Both parties need to be positive about that. We will see what happens during this break and the summer break. The most important thing is that you are prepared as a club no matter what.

How big a player is Joe Aribo for you?

He’s played his role really well and I’m really happy with his performances. When you have a midfield player who is dangerous with his runs, with his off-ball movement, you create more danger from different areas. I think Joe is playing really well at this time. I’m happy with his performances.

Have you enjoyed the intensity of your start to life as Rangers manager?

Yes, it has been really quick. It’s been three and a half weeks but has felt like three and a half months because of the games we’ve played. It has been hectic. We could only be happy after the game and then the day after we’ve been preparing for the next opponent. It’s a schedule I’m used to as a coach but also as a player. We just have to focus on preparation and go from there.

Should football continue as Covid cases rise?

For me personally I don’t want to stop now. Not only because we’re in a good moment. But most importantly we’re doing everything we can to be safe. The measurements the club are taking have been really good. We are sure we are in a very good environment to prevent the virus, that’s the most important thing. We will do everything the association decides but for me, at this moment we don’t need to change anything.

Will Aribo, Balogun and Bassey be available for the Old Firm?

They will be there 100%. For me, it was clear that we will release them (for AFCON international duty) after the Old Firm game so we have the full squad until we go into the winter break.

Is Borna Barisic fit to take part tomorrow?

He was here today. He was better than he was during the game. He’s ok. We still have some doubts, but will check them tomorrow and then make decisions with which players to start.

Is there any truth in reports linking the club with Andreas Skov Olsen, is he a player you like?

There are lots of players I like! No, I will never talk about potential players we are tracking. You will see a lot of names getting named in the press but I had no comments about that. Once we have signed a new target is the time to say something but at the moment there are some names I read in the media which we’re definitely not tracking.

Is it a concern to come up against a team that have had some positive Covid cases in the past week?

We just have to wait to see what team will play tomorrow. We know they have some issues with Covid and some players won’t be available tomorrow but it’s still Dundee United we’re playing against, no matter which players are on the pitch. The coach will have his normal way of playing but we only concentrate on our own team and make sure they are ready whatever team they face tomorrow.

Do you sympathise with the fans that are being told to stay away from social occasions?

I think football is emotion. You want to feel the emotion as a player, as a coach and as fans. It’s the beauty of the game so if fans are not there, something’s missing. In Holland, they don’t have any spectators in the stands so the big game coming up between Feyenoord and Ajax on Sunday will be in an empty stadium. It is what it is, we want it to be changed but we all want to be safe so when restrictions are there to avoid people in the stadiums we have to obey them and take the situation as it is.

Does Dundee United’s possession-based style pose a different challenge to the more direct style most other teams seem to adopt?

No, we play against teams who play for the long balls and play for the second balls. It’s always nice to see a team coming and trying to play football as well but we are prepared for both. If they are building up and we can apply the right pressure we are much closer to the goal so it’s just adapting to the play they will use, either long balls or build up from the back. We have to make sure that we apply the right pressure and try to create chances.

Joe Aribo is one booking away from missing the Celtic game, does that come into your thoughts ahead of tomorrow?

Of course, you are preparing the game for tomorrow but also have your plans for the next games if possible, especially if you have players one card away from a suspension and also physically you have to watch the load on the players but you have to take everything into account and then make your decision.

You see the Glasgow social media frenzy yesterday so in terms of Ange Postecoglu, can you reveal what he likes with his coffee?

We all live in the same area and I’ve met him a couple of times at the coffee shop so we were just having breakfast with Ross (Wilson) and he came in with his wife. We didn’t meet for lunch or breakfast or dinner but it was more like a coincidence. We spoke a little bit about the games we’ve played and I left him after that alone with his wife. It looked like we were having a five-course meal and we were having fun but I think it only lasted one or two minutes. I think it’s always nice, we are both managers of our clubs but we are still enjoying being around in the city with coffee or lunch.  It’s always good to say hello to a colleague.
