Ally McCoist reckons Billy Gilmour made an error in his choice of loan club this season.

The Scotland midfielder moved to the Norwich City after winning the European Cup with Chelsea last sesason.

He was expected to be a major force under Daniel Farke but the German manager kept the youngster out of the team and was eventually dismissed.

Dean Smith has since taken charge but form hasn’t shown much improvement and his side are rooted to the bottom of the table.

A 3-0 defeat by Crystal Palace was punctuated by foul mouth chants from Norwich fans telling Gilmour in no uncertain terms he should return to his parent club.

And McCoist thinks the talented kid didn't pick a team that properly suits his qualities.

He said on talkSPORT: “I said at the time that I wasn't convinced that that particular club was a good move for him.

“He’s the type of player that likes to play football and pass through teams. I’m not sure Norwich are that sort of team.

“Connor Gallagher’s gone to Crystal Palace who are an attack-minded team a Palace side as I've seen in a long, long time.

"They’re incomparable to Norwich, who don’t have that.”
