STEWART ROBERTSON insists the sale of Nathan Patterson fits with Rangers' strategic vision after kicking off their player trading model with a record-breaking deal.

The champions will bank £12million as a result of Patterson's switch to Everton on a long-term contract and the move could eventually be worth up to £16million if various clauses are met.

The transfer eclipses the £9million deal that took Alan Hutton to Tottenham Hotspur in 2008 and managing director Robertson is satisfied with the figures involved.

Robertson said: “This is a deal which fits with our long-term, strategic vision for the club.

"We have been very clear that player trading is an important element of our business model but only when the circumstances suit Rangers.

“We are delighted for Nathan and his family, wish them all the best for the future and they will always be welcome back at Ibrox.”
