Giovanni van Bronckhorst was speaking to Sky Sports after Rangers’ 1-1 draw against Aberdeen.

What’s your assessment of that game?

A really tough game, I think we had very tough first minutes. We score in the right moment because the whole stadium wanted a penalty. I was happy with the first goal. I think after that we knew they were going to push. We tried to defend really well. I think we did better in the first phase of the second half where we had a little bit of control of the game, as we didn’t give many chances away.

But today I think we could have been better on the ball – especially when we were 1-0 up. If we had the control we normally have, which is very difficult in a place like this, I think we could have created some more chances to make the second. Of course, we knew they were going to push. Aberdeen played physical but were also good on the ball. They get the penalty against us and with 10 men we knew it was going to be hard. In the end, especially with the 10 men, I think we’re happy with the 1-1 because a point is a point.

Are you frustrated you didn’t create more chances?

Sometimes you have games like this! It’s not like everywhere we go and dominate and make great chances and be the dominant side – we knew it was going to be hard here. Of course, we want to be better, especially on the ball, but today we weren’t so we go back to Glasgow with a point and work to the cup game on Friday.

Was the ball moving for Aberdeen’s penalty?

If you don’t have VAR the decision that’s made by the referee is the one that counts! If you have VAR and get every angle with the long ball, with the penalty you saw the wind. We saw the ball moving. It’s the way it is. We have to accept the decisions of the referee and move on.

Did you think Ryan Kent’s sending off was harsh?

It’s a physical game with a lot of tackles and duels, you know there is going to be yellows on both sides. It’s a decision by the ref. Every chance you make a foul the fans are going to scream – it’s normal in a place like this. With 10 men I think we did well and worked hard to get the point.
