ALLY MCCOIST certainly knows how to have a laugh.

The Rangers hero regularly cracks up the nation with his sense of humour while broadcasting on TV and radio.

And this morning the former Ibrox gaffer shared a hilarious prank he played during a match against Dundee United - which of course left everybody in stitches.

The Ibrox legend was up against Dutch defender Fred van der Hoorn as he decided to play a prank along with fellow frontman Mo Johnston.

The Dundee United ace was well-known for not having the best eyesight.

McCoist decided to trick him into thinking he had been subbed off when he couldn't quite see the numbers going up for a change.

Naturally, it turns out van der Hoorn was not meant to be going off, with Super Ally left in tears of laughter as the United staff balled at the Dutchman.

He told talkSPORT: "I remember a wee boy, I think his name was Freddy van der Hoorn who played with Dundee United and he used to wear contacts and his eyesight wasn’t that good.

"Me and wee Mo Johnston were playing up front for Rangers against Dundee United.

"Dundee United went to make a substitution and the boy held the board up and I walked over and shook Freddie’s hand and said ‘well played mate, thanks for the game’.

"He looked over and couldn’t see the number and he just ran off. It wasn’t his number.

"He gets about 10 yards from the halfway line and he just looks up ‘it’s not you ya maniac get back on’ and he came back over shaking his head at us.

"The two of us are in hysterics.

"We went over and shook his hand and he’s running away off and it wasn’t him. Brilliant."
