What’s the team news to face Hibs?

We have one change in the squad. Ryan Jack is out because he has a problem with his ankle. He will not be in the squad or playing tomorrow. It’s not that serious. He had an injury during the game which gave him a lot of discomfort so hopefully, we can make him ready in the coming days in training. It’s not a serious injury but the game tomorrow is too soon. With a tight schedule and so many games in a week, sometimes the fixture just comes too quick.

Have you set the standard for the rest of the season against Hearts?

Of course. I mentioned after the game we showed the way we can play and that is our standard. That’s the level you want to reach every game. Not only playing-wise tactically, but also character-wise and this is definitely the way to go forward and to make sure tomorrow we keep the levels high and we have the same performance.

How important is it that everyone contributes?

Very important. Of course, Morelos is also very important to our play as you saw against Hearts with the link-up play, with his runs and his presence in the 18-yard-box. But again the threat we had on Sunday was in different areas. We had three different goal scorers which is what you want – a team capable of creating chances, not only from players upfront but also from midfield players. That’s also very important in our game.

Have there been discussions about a new deal for Morelos?

I didn’t have a chat with him about his long-term future but he’s a player who’s definitely important to us. He’s enjoying his football at the moment. If your player is out of contract after next season then talks will happen sometime this year to see how the future is for both sides. I’m happy with him and the performances he’s putting on the pitch. I’m more than happy with him and then talks will begin.

Ryan Jack was upset at the challenge that injured him? What did you make of it?

During the match, I saw the tackle. I immediately thought that he had problems with his ankle or lower foot because Ryan is a very tough player and once he feels something he will let you know. He was injured. It was a challenge the referee didn’t see as a challenge. It was definitely a foul and it was that moment that led to his injury. He had a lot of adrenaline in that moment to play on because his character is like that. The game tomorrow comes too soon but it comes too soon.

To go back to Ryan Jack, there were similar tackles on Balogun and Bassey and at full time your captain was remonstrating with the referee, do you find that a little odd considering how the game had gone?

We were happy with the result. A booking is a booking although you have the idea you play the ball. In the situations you mentioned, both Leon and Calvin thought they got the ball first but a yellow card is a yellow card. If you keep accumulating yellow cards it’ll definitely be a suspension so I can understand the thinking of my players. But, overall you have to be happy with the 5-0 and move on because, as I’ve said before, the ref has taken the decisions with the knowledge of the view he has got on the pitch and we have to respect that.

It's quite easy to watch the tackles afterwards and say, ‘Ok, they’re not fouls,’ but the ref doesn’t have a replay, he doesn’t have VAR so it’s difficult moments for him as well. But you just have to move on and prepare for the next match.

Are you coming into a period where there’ll be a lot of rotation within the squad or would you prefer to start with a settled team?

It’s depending on how your players feel, it depends how the opponent plays, which competition you’re in. We’ve got quite a fit squad, only Hagi and Ryan Jack are not available through injury but otherwise, we have a full squad so I’m really happy because there was a time this year when we didn’t have a lot of players available.

It’s a very good luxury for me to go into every game and see what’s needed and what kind of players I need for the game. I think it's an ongoing process, of course, you want a team that’s settled but sometimes you need to rotate.

How much have you learned from the midweek disappointment to the response against Hearts at the weekend?

What I learned is that we reacted well and I think we picked up different areas of our play which wasn’t good enough in the midweek game and we really improved in that. We were quite aggressive, we were pressing at the right moments with the whole team and didn’t let Hearts escape from an easy build up so that was very good for me to see that we reacted in the way we wanted.

We were very dominating and that’s also good to see and the case is now to go on this path and make sure we keep the levels and also be sharp and also be able to confront when players aren’t doing it or making mistakes, just make sure you keep the levels of the team as well. For me as a coach from the sidelines but also as a team and I saw that on Sunday, everyone was pushing each other, helping each other, coaching each other and make sure we do everything to win the game.

What are you expecting from Hibs?

We are expecting a similar game system-wise. Hibs played Hearts last week with the same system, with five at the back. We have prepared well but we know we had a tough game the last time we played Hibs away. It’s a new game but our main objective is the way we are and behave ourselves and that has to be the same as we had on Sunday against Hearts.

Is Aaron Ramsey fit enough to start games yet?

No, I don’t think he’s ready to start yet. You could see the difference when he came in and really just during the team sessions in training and also his first minutes in the game last Sunday. Aaron is improving each day and I think it’s good to see the difference he’s already made in a week, he will become better and better but starting a game for him is too soon. But he will be closer to starting a game the more minutes he plays and the more sessions he has with the team.

Filip Helander has been omitted from the European squad, what’s the issue with him?

It was a hard decision to leave him out of the European squad because we only had 23 players we could put on the list so at that time I chose the players who are fit to play games and also players who can play in different roles.

Filip is really close to starting to get minutes again, hopefully, we can involve him at the weekend so he starts playing and also be involved with the squad in the league and the cup competition but the only competition he cannot play is in Europe. Once he will make his minutes he will be back in the squad, it’s looking quite positive for him so he will be back playing really soon.
