Here's everything the Rangers manager said to the media after the 2-2 draw with Motherwell at Ibrox.

What went wrong today?

It was obviously a game where we lost two points again. I think we started really well, we should’ve won the game in the first half with the chances we created. Second half we tried to continue that dominance and look for the third goal but with the first goal, they scored the belief came back to Motherwell. All the chances we created after we didn’t score so you keep the opponent in the game and 15 minutes from time they score the equaliser. After that, we pushed really hard to get the third goal but it just didn’t fall.

What was the thinking behind playing John Lundstram at centre half?

Well, Filip [Helander] was not available today, Leon [Balogun] just came back from injury so we took a risk to put him in the game on Thursday. I think John did really well, the first half you could see with his passing, defensively he’s also strong. We could also put him in midfield so I think he did well today. In the end, you look to the players you have available for the best game-plan you have possible.

With hindsight, would you have made changes earlier in the game?

We created 30 chances. I know it’s been hard weeks but it wasn’t that we didn’t create anything. We were playing well, creating chances but, in the end, we only get three minutes extra time, which, for me, is unbelievable but it’s the refs who decide it. I think in the build-up to the second goal, their player was one yard offside and we scored two goals which were even closer I think with Morelos. You couldn’t see it with your eye but when their player was one-yard offside he didn’t see it, that’s why you need VAR for these moments to help the referees. If VAR was used today, we win this game.

How confident are you in the mentality of this team?

I think the mentality’s good. We didn’t have any complaints on Thursday on the mentality, it’s the same players so it’s a couple of days later. They want to win but sometimes these situations happen, we have to be more ruthless defensively, that’s for sure and we have to be more clinical in front of goal. We had a lot of chances to score more goals but if you look back on the run after the break, getting four draws isn’t good enough, it has to be better, especially with the standards we want to have with this club. Of course, we can do many things better but I think the mentality of the players is what’s needed to be successful but obviously, we cannot continue dominating games and getting one point out of them.

Are you concerned with Allan McGregor’s form?

If we get a goal against us, it’s not only Allan McGregor. That’s very easy to say the fault of the goalkeeper. I think in the build-up we didn’t do technically well. We passed to players we never pass to when we are building up in this way so it starts with the build-up. You defend as a team, I think Allan is a good goalkeeper, a very experienced one so I think it’s very easy to put the blame on him because we conceded two goals today.
