Tanker drivers supplying fuel to Glasgow Airport have agreed a 9% pay rise with their employers.

The agreement means the drivers who work for North Air, together with a 9% shift allowance increase, will see wages rise by more than £3000 a year.

The company provides refuelling services for domestic and international airlines who fly into and out of Glasgow Airport.

The union representing the drivers said the successful negotiation was another example of an effective collective bargaining response to the cost of living crisis.

Sharon Graham, Unite general secretary, said: “The deal for North Air drivers will see their income rise by around £3200 over the year which is a huge uplift. This is how this union responds to the cost-of-living crisis.

“Glasgow Airport is a success story for Unite; we are delivering serious pay for our members. Unite is all about delivering better jobs, pay and conditions and that’s exactly what we have achieved in this deal.”

The union said it has successfully negotiated other satisfactory pay deals in the aviation industry for members.

It listed a pay rise for 800 Glasgow Airport workers, including a 9% pay rise at ABM, 15% and 28.5% at ICTS Central Search and Hold Baggage Screeners, and 10.2% at OCS Group, 11.2% at Loganair and 9.1% at Menzies Aviation.

Pat McIlvogue, Unite regional industrial officer, said: “The pay deal for North Air drivers is another big win for Unite.

“Pay wins like this help to attract and retain tanker drivers to the industry.

“Over the last few months Unite has secured major wins for over 800 workers at Glasgow Airport which is providing a major boost to the local economy.”
