RANGERS have appealed the red card given to John Lundstram in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Hibs.

The midfielder was dismissed after a cynical tactical foul as he looked to foil a rapid Martin Boyle breakaway.

Referee Willie Collum immediately brandished a red card to the Scouser’s astonishment.

Pundits and fans alike criticised the decision with Collum deeming the challenge serious foul play.

For a challenge to meet that criteria it must meet the following criteria in the IFAB Laws of the Game:

The Rangers Review understands the club, in previous seasons, have expressed specific concerns about Collum’s competency. Frustrated by Sunday’s display, they have reiterated these concerns once again to the SFA.

Their anger was exacerbated by a similar incident in yesterday’s Premier League match between Manchester City and Newcastle.

Kieran Trippier was sent off for an almost identical challenge only to see the card downgraded to a yellow after VAR intervention.

Hibernian midfielder Jake Doyle-Hayes also escaped a straight red card punishment for a similar tactical foul commited on Lundstram in the first half.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst offered his thoughts on the decison to dismiss the midfielder in the second half.

"It was a physical game. I saw some tackles in the first half with a lot of passion," said the Dutchman. "The ref makes the decision if it's a red or yellow card. John was harsh to get the red card. I think it was a foul but he didn't have any intention to hit him really hard.

"I was surprised he gave the red card."

Alfredo Morelos was also shown a straight red card later in the second half, reducing Rangers to nine men as they aimed to hang on to a 2-1 lead.

However, Josh Campbell struck in injury time to salvage a point for the Easter Road side.
